Cold Steel panic buy thread

Well, it's a good news/bad news kinda story:

- The good news: I stayed strong and disciplined and did not buy the SRK in San Mai.

- The bad news: I just ordered a GI Tanto and Recon Tanto in SK-5.

And since I'm being honest here - and no offense to anyone specifically - but you guys SUCK!!!!!!!! for helping people trying to not buy more knives. You should be ashamed of yourselves. The bad news here: My bet is that the vast majority of people are actually gonna take it instead as a complement!

Can't win.

🤣

What made you go in the direction of the GI Tanto and Recon Tanto in SK-5 instead of the SRK in San Mai? The reason I ask is because I've been thinking about picking up a the SRK in San Mai.

$$$. 2 SK-5 = 1 San Mai. The SM SRK is still on the table, depending on how long it takes my credit card to cool and - mostly - if my wife finds out about the two SK-5s!
If this is my last post on BF, it won't take a rocket scientist to figure out why. 🤣

I took this pic earlier for the modern lockback thread, so it has some other knives in it, but it has all the Cold Steel stuff that I bought after finding of the sale. I am not sure but I think the GRIK, Voyager XL and fancy Espada XL are pre-GSM. Bought the other Espada this year. I wanted to get some more, though, some mid sized, another Voyager, and maybe a fixed blade. Really want a 3V fixed.

It is not panic buying but I just received a San Mai Master Tanto in the mail today and last week I got a 3V Magnum Tanto XII.

The Magnum Tanto seems a little heavier and thicker than my San Mai Magnum Tanto and is a bit more snug in the sheath. It is not too bad but it does take effort to take it in and out of the sheath, unlike the San Mai version.

The current 3V version has a hollow grind and satin finish and looks like the San Mai version aside from the different markings and the lack of a lamination line. The pics in various sites make it look like a dull grey but it is just as shiny as the San Mai version.

I already bought a San Mai Master Tanto for my dad last summer, but I did not examine it much before I shipped it to him. It went in and out of the sheath easily, but the one that I just bought was stuck in the sheath and took effort to remove it and to replace it. After taking it in and out multiple times it is better, but it still isn't as good as the previous one. So I guess this is an example of some of the Secure-Ex sheaths fitting better than others.

The knife itself is very good, having good balance and is one of the most comfortable production knives, but I already knew that since I've had an original tanto for years.

The San Mai is listed as 3/16" thick, which is 4.76mm, while the 3V is listed as 5mm.

Yesterday my second GI Tanto arrived, I had to have another when I realized how good a thrower it was. I don't try to sneak anything past my wife, after almost 50 years she realizes how hopeless it is. For example, three separate delivery trucks rolled down the driveway... I always show her my new toys and so far she hasn't killed me / left me / or filed for divorce.
