For some reason, CS no longer makes the 4" Voyager Vaquero. I love mine as the ergonomics and lite weight are awesome. I will probably buy one on eBay or elsewhere with the plain edge since I have one with a serrated edge.
I would also like to see some 'tweener sized knives - a 5" Ti Lite, a 4.75" Voyager Vaquero, etc...especially how some states (not mine) don't allow 6" folders. I think CS is missing out on a decent sized market share by not compromising on the length of their knives. It seems the blades on some folders are a little too small or way to big.
I was going to opt for the 6" Ti Lite, but after seeing a vid on YouTube, no way - that thing is huge and is almost 14" long when deployed, not to mention the weight.
As for steel, I don't have a problem with AUS-8A. It scores a 58/59 on the Rockwell Scale which is just right. My knives hold an edge, the serrations do not chip even when abused and I have sharpened my Ti Lite to the point where I can cut long, thin spirals of paper.
The thing that makes CS a great value is that they make their knives overseas, use Japanese AUS-8A and I think the Japanese know a thing or two about making swords and quality steel cutting implements. Nothing wrong with AUS-8A except for perception.
If CS starts using higher grade, more expensive steel and make their knives in the US, then they stop becoming a good value knife maker.
Cold Steel is successful and has a strong customer base because they make a great product at a great price.
I'd rather spend my money on reasonably priced, quality knives and use the money I saved from buying 4 or 5 knives Cold Steel knives on a firearm.
I still might buy the 6" Ti Lite Zytel though, and perhaps one day I'll add the XL Espada to my collection but it will go in a glass display case.
A 16 3/4" knife weighing in at one pound might be a bit much for EDC, and I would cry the second I got a scratch on it.
My next SD purchase might be the Beretta Pico, although it's only currently available in .380 - Make one in 9mm and I'll start saving my pennies.
I've had my eye on a California Seecamp for a while, but they are in short supply and very expensive, but a great little concealed carry firearm.
I wish Kel-Tec would make a California version of the P-32 - Under 9 oz.while fully loaded with 7+1 rounds. And if it gets confiscated or if I have to dispose of it in a hurry, it's not a huge hit to the wallet.
Just put a damn Safety on it already!
