Cold Steel SR 1 Issues...Again!

Hmmm...CS deleted all the reviews on their web site about the SRK and also are now showing a sabre grind version of the SRK in Sk-5 steel.

I wound up selling mine, it locked up solid, but the blade to handle ratio is too much, unlocking it takes effort, its just too massive more overbuilt than I really need it to be.

Hmmm..ive been looking for a SR1. I've got a Hold Out 1 which is hilariously large and was hoping to swap it out. I guess I should...hold off.

Update to this thread: I returned the SR1 and purchased a ZT 0220 off of this site. Very happy with the ZT

Glad you're happy with your purchase, i've owned and used both, they are completely different knives obviously, the 0220 is in no way designed to take the same beating the SR1 could, i don't think any ZT frame or liner lock could. Such a shame they dropped the ball on this SR1 a bit.

I’m still looking for a Cold Steel because I do like the triad lock. The only issue I have is, I do not like liner-less handles and all the Cold Steel folders seem to be that style. I know the voyager series has liners but I do not like the cheap scales on them. Also, I cannot afford the 4 max, so I am out of luck.

Is your dislike for the linerless models due to worries about strength? if so you have no worries, they are some of the toughest knives on the market, i've abused an old recon 1 without liners for years and years and there is not a spec of slop or play anywhere. Also have you considered the Code 4 series? a very nice knife indeed.

I have owned quite a few cold steel folders within the past couple of years. I don’t doubt their strength one bit. I just feel like the liner-less handles look and feel cheap. It is only personal preference as I know that the knives will withstand anything I throw at them.

Yep that's fair enough, everyone has their preferences  Let's hope they bring out some good new designs this year.

I think I may just have to save up and get the 4 Max. That would be the only hard use folder I’d ever need, honestly.

Did anyone else hear a roumour about SR1 tantos coming this year? I think I red about it somewhere this week. Hope they made the screws and barrels better/larger and sorted out the blade play. Well Im all tantoed out for 2018 after getting a medium warcraft tanto anyway.

Haven't heard anything about the 2018 catalog. I'm looking forward to it.

Just saw it posted on Instagram. The new tanto sr1

I like it, but it has issues, mainly the fine threaded screws. The pocket clip is a one time deal if you remove it. Because of the threaded barrels where the screws anchor in combo with the fine threaded screws, the screws will cross thread, and make it impossible to remove because of the non-keyed threaded barrel that the screws (both sides of the handle) thread into. It is a stupid design that I am surprised Demko would sign off.

I got my up and down play out, by tightening the pivot up really tight. Now it's hard to open with just my thumb, but I can open it one handed and would rather have it like that than with blade rock. Still it's not right as the Recon 1 and Lawman I have open easy with a pivot nowhere near as tight and have no lock rock. I hate buying a new knife and finding any blade play right out of the box. I know that any lock can loosen up a bit with moderate hard use, but brand new they should come tight!

Try loosening the screws that sit on the handle, behind the lock bar. This can loosen up the action of the lock bar, so it engages the blade and lock pin a bit better.

Did that, didn't help made it worse if anything. Plus, I found the screws will never tighten down all the way because they just keep turning.
