Cold Steel SR 1 Issues...Again!

Funny, I was actually going to bump this thread this morning.

I like it, but it has issues, mainly the fine threaded screws. The pocket clip is a one time deal if you remove it. Because of the threaded barrels where the screws anchor in combo with the fine threaded screws, the screws will cross thread, and make it impossible to remove because of the non-keyed threaded barrel that the screws (both sides of the handle) thread into. It is a stupid design that I am surprised Demko would sign off.

I just got the tanto version. I assumed that it would be issue-free because it came after the troubled clip point version. Nope.
It came with one pocket clip screw halfway out. Would not go in or out. Finally got out with pliers on barrel.
Another body screw wouldn't come out because of the free spinning barrel insert. Pliers again.
Lockup is pretty solid. Maybe a tiny hint of play but not enough to bother me.
Crooked step in lockbar is an eye sore. Lock is very easy to disengage on this model.
Rough scales, tight clip...fixable issues if they bother you.
I disassembled to work on mine but I suspect I won't be able to get that final screw in because of damaged threads.

The screws on both sides screw into a free floating barrel. You have to hold the screw opposite in place, in order to tighten it.

Yes this works for tightening but not necessarily for loosening. The design is just plain bad. I've never experienced this before and I've disassembled many Cold Steel models. It's one thing to use a barrel and screw design but this uses a barrel and two screws. The barrel should be fixed in the spacer but it's not.

Reading stuff like this thread isnt doing anything for the confidence I had in my recently ordered but not as yet arrived Natchez... Hope I didnt buy a lump of funky steel... I guess what can be learned here is cut one's losses and hang on to the older CS blades I have and don't risk beaucoup bucks on newer ones...

I recently got a Bush Ranger folder and it's very well put together. Centering was off a touch so I took it apart. CS still delivers the best value by a mile.
