Cold Steel vs. CRKT Lawsuit

Karda, I agree it was getting out of hand. I've never seen one disappeared like that before. Only closed and locked. They never even explained they were closing it or locking it. It was just gone. :) That was a thread that was started by the Cold Steel mod too. The new thread over there is one started by a guest/member.

I don't see them wanting to start a new one themselves after what happened IMO, but that they haven't closed the new one yet gets respect from me. They could just ban that subject if they wanted. It is their forum to moderate.

Joe

Yes, it is their forum to moderate as the wish. They didn't owe anyone an explanation for their action. In addition to closing it, they could have also issued infractions as they saw fit. Something to bear in mind for those who instead of rational discussion, prefer to take the trolling route.

Good morning! I've been following this thread with interest. Thanks!

As some of you who were following the previous thread are aware, I actually posted several times asking people to keep the conversation civil and respectful.
The mudslinging, name calling and trolling continued. The thread was finally deleted.

As many of you know, I'm new to the forums. I try and interact with everyone as much as I can and I try to be actively involved wherever possible. Sadly, due to time constraints I'm mainly just in the CS sub-forum, but if I get more time I'd love to get more involved in this HUGE and exciting community.
This is the first time I have ever deleted a thread. I hated to do it, but it was getting ridiculous. I did what I feel was necessary at that time.
If there was another way of shutting the thread down I didn't know about it. I'll explore further.
I'm learning as I go here. Apologies if what I did was incorrect or unusual

The original post was a link to a press release which the CS team were required to share across all platforms. That press release is still live on our website, along with a statement from our company President.

As I always say in our forum, I have no problem with discussion. In fact I encourage it. I also don't expect everyone to agree - life would be boring if we all liked the same things :)
I figure we are all here because of our shared love of sharp stuff. Whether it's here on the forums or in "the pit" at BLADE we all love talking about our hobby. Some of us are even lucky enough to make a career out of this.
I've got into plenty of discussions about knives with fellow collectors over the years. We're passionate about this stuff, and a good discussion is a lot of fun, so I was excited to be able to join BF and to talk about knives as part of my job.
I don't expect everyone to get along all the time, I just ask that the conversation is kept civil, respectful and free from all the bullying and hate speak. If people really can't post without getting offensive, I kindly ask them to take it to Whine and Cheese

I understand some people's confusion about the suit, and I find it frustrating that my hands are tied and that I'm unable to discuss it.
That's just the way it is right now - it's an active case so all employees are asked not to discuss it. I'm sure it's the same for the CRKT crew too.

All I can do right now is point people toward the statement from Lynn, which can be found HERE
At the very least, it explains his motivation for this whole thing

Thanks for your understanding

Have a great day!

Thanks for that. This is a difficult situation for many of us to understand and it's evoked a lot of heated discussion and debate. Regardless of that, I for one am glad to have you here. I sincerely hope that the suit gets settled in as amicable a manner as possible. We're a small but passionate community and for the most part, we all just want everyone involved here to live together in peace and harmony.

I don't. ;)

...in my legal opinion, CS's claim has no validity, they totally fail to show any real tangible damages that CRKT can be shown to bear liability for causing them. It would take more than a simple inference to draw a conclusion supported by a preponderance of the evidence (the standard in civil court for most cases like this one) to rule in favor of CS not to mention award them anything in the way of damages (money). TL/DR version: CS's claim is baseless, it will be dismissed.
I agree. But I don't believe CS ever thought it would win. It's primary goal was most likely to serve notice to consumers that CRKT's claims regarding the strength of the LAWKS locking system is a sham, and works better on paper than it does in practice. To me, there's no doubt that many CRKT proponents really bought in to the hype that the LAWKS safety gave the knives virtual fixed-blade strength. If the lawsuit can convince people to identify Cold Steel's folders with strength and not CRKT's, they may not need to win. Does that mean people will stop buying the CRKT M21-04 because it's heavier and not as strong as Cold Steel's Large Voyager? Not with me. I continue to love my CRKTs because they still have what Voyagers now don't, which is appeal. Voyagers are good, solid knives that are ugly. Even with the new CTS-BHP steel, many users would still prefer the previous generation Voyagers with the polished VG-1 steel blades. It's one of the main reasons why the latter sell for much higher prices on eBay. I've got a boatload of the old Voyagers (mint) stashed away, but have no desire to acquire any more of the new ones than the few I have. So while the lawsuit will fade, its message will not.
