Cold Steels Blade Weaknesses

I'm stunned that the loser in all this is CS. A 17 year old abuses a knife, complains on the world biggest knife forum. Gets a new knife out of it! Still complains, what did he want? LT to turn up and apologise in person? And the Sh#t will stick with CS.
I used to work in a knife shop and if he'd come in and tried to get a new knife out of me after saying what it had been used for, I would have told him to go forth and multiply (with less words).

if you abuse a knife, DON'T complain about it breaking, (this behavior is the main reason I do not loan ANY of my knives to ANYONE EVER), if someone comes on to my property to do some work and doesn"t have the proper tools for the job they're liable to be sent back to get them.

If it was so damn pathetic then why in the hell did you bother helping me?

I was with you and on your side when you started this quest like many of us here. And the assistance I and others lent you was genuine, but you got your knife in a reasonable amount of time, which you proceeded to whine about throughout the entire duration. When you got your replacement knife you whine some more because of a mis-stamping claiming it was a second, which is the only thing you can find wrong with the knife that you told us about. For a knife costing only 20. or less I think Cold Steel did you a 'solid' as many other forumites have already stated. This is not a collectible knife. Its an inexpensive user..

So use the knife in good health my boy and learn from this little experience. Don't lose your temper over the little stuff. Keep your composure and think before you speak(or type) and your character will improve as you mature into a nice young man. I wish you all the best.

Blessings,

Tony

I just received a new CS Master Hunter (my second) and right out of the box it's sharp enough to shave arm hair. I watched the video, and while it's impressive, I have no intention of putting this knife or any other knife I own through those tests, including plunging it through a car hood - maybe a beer can. The hardest material I use a knife on is wood.

I am looking a new knife to replace my old Buck 110 ( 16 yrs old now ) I was looking at the CS GunsiteII and it looks fine.

I've also seen the ads about CS knives, but i'm not going to try this @ home. I am however looking for a good knife for everyday carry. Used primerarely for opening boxes, general small work and most of all self defense is push comes to shove.

I totaly like the Tanto design, and the serated part is verry handy for rope cutting etc.

I know there are much better knives around, but they are also more expensive most of the time. Personaly i don't like the designs of the Spiderco knives, even though they are supposed to have better steel.

But going from a Buck 110, 420 steel to a CS gunsiteII, AUS-8A steel is this a good option?
I am used to the opening of the CS way from another knife i have. So this isn't a problem for me, because i actualy like it that way.
I've seen them on the E-Bay for $45 NIB, were as they cost $135 were i live ( Europe ) so this is verry interesting.

Anny words of advise, or tips to check out before buying a knife like this?
Thanks in advance.

Well, you might want to hunt on eBay and see if you can get any of the older AUS 8A Gunsites. They're now made with VG-1 stainless, which I've heard isn't as good. The knife, however, is excellent. I carry the 5-inch bladed version and I love it.

If I'm wrong about the steel, someone please correct me.

Yes the one i can get is the AUS 8A version.

I have been looking at other knives but i don't think i'm going to get a more versatile knife for 40-45 bucks delivered at home.

And upgrading from 420 steel to AUS 8A should be a step foreward right?

I've have the 4" Gunsite as my EDC. It's excellent and carried in perference to my Spyderco's, Case and many other folders. A thinish profile sits well in the pocket. £68 in the UK and still good value. (Got mine from Ebay for £30)

Good to hear.

I can get the Gunsite II for $45 wich is around €35. If i were to buy it here in Holland the thing would cost me a whopping €135!!!
I don't think i can get more bang for the buck, especialy when mirrored to local prices.

Although the Spyderco Endura is also a nice knife ( half/half blade )
