CS does not sell or move 2nd folders, with the exception of old style Voyagers with plastic clips that were broken off. They replace those old knives with new ones and then grind off the jegged idge from the break and have then sold them at their sidewalk sales and such. They won't sell anything with a compromised lock or other such flaw, and since the old style Voyagers have not been made in several years, their numbers in the public are going down.
As for the #2 on the inside of your knife, from my understanding (I have heard this before) it is actually a stock number stamped into the zytel. It is for inventory purposes for the Zytel maker. It does not effect or compromise the handles integrity in any way.
When CS gets and ships a FIXED blade 2nd, they make the #2 stamp very obvious so there is no doubt that it is a 2nd. It would be foolish to hide the fact that a knife is a 2nd for anyone. They want the public to know that they have received a 2nd, and they do not want 2nds to go out to potentially unscrupulous dealers that might try to move them as 1sts, therefore the #2 is very clearly stamped.
As a rule, CS won't move a folder in a 2nd (even though 2nds are cosmetic flaws only) because of their devotion to safety and lock integrity. Again, even though 2nds are cosmetic flaws only, they don't even want the buying public to think that there might be something wrong or substandard with any of the mechanisms. I have heard of entire case lots of knives being destroyed because of slight flaws.
Some of the fixed knives became 2nds for something as simple as "Cold Steel" not being stamped on it and similiar stuff to that.
If you still aren't happy with the knife, call CS. I can tell you that it is not a 2nd, but if you still aren't satisfied, just call the company. I am sure that they will do everything they can to keep you happy.
