Cold Steel's new items

Hmm, I see they cancelled the axis licensed lock on the AK 47 in favor of the Triad lock. I really like the "ultra" lock. BTW, I read somewhere in this thread they'd be more interested in a CS knife it it had skeletonized liners and other nice touches found on more expensive knives; the AK has skeletonized liners, perfectly sculpted G10 and blade stock as thick as my Kershaw Tyrade. It is a well-made knife by my standards and is worth every penny I paid for it.

Judging by the photos, to disassemble the knife will not work. This is wrong ((This is bad.

I'm pretty sure you couldn't disassemble any of the old Voyager models either. Not a big problem for me, I've never felt the need to disassemble any of my folders, riveted, screwed together or otherwise. Except, of course, for my Sebenzas, which have HAVE to be taken apart if you want to oil them. The tolerances are so tight that not even oil can get into the pivot.

Fully collapsible or not?
If not - then I do not understand ... Why then SCREWS?

Not taking a knife apart to clean it isn't a big deal, I just hit them with air or WD-40 and wipe them off. If they get really bad, run them under very hot water then spay with WD-40 after they dry and wipe off the excess.

no, the main question is not "how to clean", the main question is "why there is a rivet at pivot and screws at the rest of handle?". i understand why we can see screw at pivot and rivets at the rest of handle sometimes, but vice-versa ....

I bet I could get it apart! :D Its probably possible to slap a 1/4" pivot or maybe a 3/16" one in there depending on how big that pin in there now is.

...Overall, I like it. Looks cool. And hope it's not too expensive. I'm cutting down on beer and rice (I'm not from the US) just to maintain my steel addiction... :)

I am afraid that I must take exception to that remark, Cotherion. Nothing is worth cutting your beer ration for...well, almost nothing. :D

I find the presence of riveted pins on a knife to be a non-issue. I need look no further than my Spyderco Native or one of my old CS Voyagers to confirm this in my mind. Both have performed admirably and not developed any major blade play, but even if they did, a few light taps to the pivot pin would suffice. Now, don't get me wrong, construction with screws is always welcome, but rivets are not a deal breaker for me.

I'm sorrry what was I thinking. I don't need food, just good Scottish Ale and a packet of crisp :)

Regarding the pivot pin I believe Andrew Demko (DemkoKnives) has the assuring voice...

Anyone know if the voyager series now has screws or rivets? I feel if it's still rivets then they have disappointed me.

If they are rivets then the Recon or Rajah series are my choices. I hate non adjustable pivots.

By the way, anyone who knows me know that I'm a CS lover so I'm not bashing CS.

I believe that there might possibly be a graphic error. Keep in mind the illustrations of the folders so far look like computer graphic and not pictures of real things.

However I'm flashing the Demko Signal (like Bat signal :)) over BF city and hope he'll be here to answer why the pivot look sooo shiny and smooth on BOTH sides of the Voyager folders?!?!? Where's the screw hole ?!?!? Where do I insert my steel rod?!?!?:)

I agree. As well, both CS and Spyderco use steel washers under their riveted pivots and I see no evidence of such in the provided graphics.

FRN (fiberglass reinforced nylon) often times have washers molded into the design of the handle guys. The surface where the blade rotates is smooth as a babies behind on a lot of the ones I've had apart.

I think he was not refering to the washers in between blade and handle but more like the washer that is on the outside where the rivet head is expanded and rested on. Separating the rivet head from the handle. Though I may have misunderstood you STR in the first place :)

Yes, the voyagers all have adj. pivot pin. that pic shown adove is a rendering
over a hand made sample. In short, all voyagers will have "screw construction"

That's excellent! Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the bloody grip straightened out at the end of the handle to allow for easy rotation and minipulation of the knife.

So who is selling any of these besides Knife Outlet right now, they only have the new Recon Tanto, SRK and one other fixed....I want those folders!

loving this new lineup. I always loved the weight of the voyager line but the handles seemed a bit insecure in my hand compared to other knives with a large finger groove close to the blade. I loved the recon tanto except I wanted that one in full back blade, not drop point tanto. I liked their mini tac series but wanted one in 4- 4 and a half inch balde. I wanted them to put out a new tactical hawk and a traditional spike hawk. Either they've been reading my mind or many other customers asked for the same thing. AND if some of the secondary dealers lower the prices from the retail suggested like they have been I'm anticipating being able to pick up a san mai voyager for 80-60 bucks! Very nice.

I'm really excited by the new lineup featuring the Tri-Ad lock. Since owning a Spyderco Spyderhawk with its lockback I've grown to love the lockback. Funny thing is I never really liked them because of a mishap that occurred in my youth with a cheap lockback. I'm glad I gave it another chance. The Tri-Ad appears to be one helluva locking system. My hat's off to Andrew and Cold Steel!:thumbup:

One of the reasons why I hate folders is the torx pivot that get's loose very fast, and you have to be adjusting it all the time.
