Cold Steels new stuff put up on the website

The "FINN BEAR"...
..is hollow ground? Blasphemy!
My panties are way beyond bunched.

CS has sold SK-5 tools for years, bad axe, sf shovel, bushman, I think maybe even the assegai and javelin. their prices were on a roller coaster because of the japanese economic situation, they had to change prices with the exchange rate.
I wonder if the hardness will be the same as those tools though. IIRC those are all left fairly soft compared to the old Carbon V blades, though in a blade like the Trail Master I would prefer toughness over edge holding.

I also was wondering about SK5 would compare to the Carbon 5. If someone gets a new one with the SK5, please let us know how welll it does.

If SK5 is a cheap steel does this mean some sog knives are vastly overpriced?

compared to what you pay for the whole knife, the cost of steel in any of the knives commonly discussed is practically insignificant.

I love the new "tactical" marker :D

After you club someone out with it you can draw onto him some facial hair, temporary tatoos or random slogans so when they take his mugshot down at the police station, the pics will wind up on the "Smoking Gun" website.

From their latest update (the "GI Tanto")- "Please don’t throw away hundreds and hundreds of dollars on similar knives sold by convicted felons and rip off artists posing as elite “military operators”. Get the real G.I. Tanto from Cold Steel and get more than your money’s worth." :barf:

Makes you wonder who, specifically, they might be referring to in their usual over the top pointlessly confrontational style.

That one-piece kris dagger looks interesting though. I've always wanted a kris for the collection.

it's pretty obvious who they're referring to, and I plan on buying stock in Jiffy Pop when these come out. :D

no kidding...... now where did I put my asbestos undies and my fire suit. Funny thing I called about getting a catalog today and asked them about the GI Tanto specifically if it was a chisel grind, the first guy was like oh the recon tanto...uhhhhh no the new gi tanto the one with the paracord wrapped handle then I asked is it chisel ground and got a long pause as he was totally confused and I tried to explain the chisel grind still no dice. I get transferred to a young lady that he thought might be able to help me.... NOT. I asked to speak to someone that actually knows something about knives and she had me hold for awhile and came back and said no it was a regular grind. I wanted to ask a few more questions but I didnt want her head to blow up while I was on the phone. Oh well that kris looks cool and I need a replacement for my old pair of ring daggers and the price is right so I'm cool.

That kind of stinks. I'm not the biggest cold steel fan, but I liked the UWK, OSS and ODA in carbonV. And made in the USA. They where tough as hell. And a great deal. Now for $50 they are just crappy stainless chineese crap. If they are 50 on there they will be 40 or 30 other places = crap. I think any little bit I liked cold steel is gone. It just seems now instead of noname chineese crap it will be Cold Steel chineese crap. I like the safe keeper II though. It's cheaper and for something like that it doesn't have to be carbon.

What's up with that? Am I missing something?

WOW look at the strider rip off then look at what he says.http://www.coldsteel.com/80ft.html

What a load of doogy pooh, it is official, he will not stoop to any low to try and sell a knife.

A shame, i have a few CS users because CS is the only company that makes things like the spetsnaz shovel or a large stiletto with a good lock.

I cannot wait for the Lynfomercial DVD to come out....

Strider. Positively no doubt they are tryin to bash Strider. the knife is an almost exact clone of the Strider BN. And there have been rumors of Striders previous tangles with the justice system...

Even so its utterly rediculous for them to make these kidns of wild claims.

Your right about the Kriss throwing knife. If you made a pair of scales for the handle, and reprofiled the blade, It would be a real contender in the FMA circles.

This http://www.knifecenter.com/news/index.html , 1st paragraph, says that the Trailmaster will made in China. That would account for the lower price. Probably lower quality as well. Won't be buying one of those.

At least the SRK and the Recon Tanto are being made in Japan, from Aus8.
That sounds good to me, and I'll buy one of those Recon Tantos to go with my Carbon V Recon. After I round the secondary tip and flat grind it, it should be good to go.
