Collection Liquidation - Profit or Loss?

Guys,

I am not against people buying what they like. You just don't get to complain when you go to sell or trade the knife and you take a hit.

Yes, if enough of these collectors take enough hits they will leave the hobby/industry.

The more thought given to potential value of the knife will keep collectors from taking a hit or not as severe a hit. This may keep them in the hobby/industry longer. Ultimately this will benefit everyone in the custom knife hobby/industry.

Most of the collectors posting here buy a lot of knives every year. Most are expensive as well. Since they don't possess an endless source of money, their buying habits dictate that they at least give resale potential a thought.

For those collectors buying 1 or 2 knives a year, resale is probably not something they give much thought to.

Anyone here bought a knife where the determinant factor wasn't how much they liked the piece, but the price? I have, and I would again. I've never bought a knife I disliked, but I've bought knives that left me somewhat tepid.

I take it your intent was to resell the piece for a profit?

Possibly, but it's also a purchase that I feel 0 risk about. There are many more knives I'd not mind display than knives I'm willing to take a financial risk on.

Kevin, dammit, you didn't give me a heads up on that sheephorn Fisk! SOK, not in the budget right now...;)

Jose, I sent you an e-mail about 10 days ago saying I was considering selling it. It's sold, but haven't received payment yet.

Yes, just to flip it. But the price has to be low enought to be worth my time and effort.
If it's for my collection or long term I really have to like it to buy.
