Collector....EDCer....Admirer....Addicted to packages being delivered ;-)

That makes lots of sense right there! I've had my wife drive a package or two up to me at work...if she was coming to town anyways :)

I am totally addicted to the entire EDC culture at this point, high end custom knives, the coolest TAD gear available, of course the nice 1911's, and it has even seeped into my clothes buying at this point. I think I might have a problem lol. I do dabble in the photography aspect as well it is quite fun and racking up the Instagram followers is a nice passtime.

I feel so bad for my USPS and UPS guys that I've started leaving them bottles of water and little bags of chips. Call it either kindness or bribery, either way it seems to be working. :)

The emotional experience of receiving, opening and using a new blade is so f^%$ing satisfying. I believe they call it ASMR. I just dig on pulling the sealing tape tight, touching a razor sharp edge to it and hearing the gentle pop as it begins to tear. Often the item is in brown kraft paper as crisp as dry autumn leaves and the sound and feel of carefully unwrapping it heightens the anticipation. If it's a particularly well made blade the initial opening or unsheathing of borders on orgasmic. The break in period is like a honeymoon with a young bride. It's a sickness but I certainly won't be seeking a cure.

EDCer, collector, hoarder .... probably. Addicted, almost certain. But like all good addicts, I'm pretty good at hiding it.
But, all alone, at the end of the driveway, taking yet another package out of my mail box, I can feel the neighbor's eyes trained on me, wondering ......
And yes, there is the huge rush of using one razor sharp blade to open and unwrap the package leading to another treasure.
It can only end in a straight jacket and padded room - or when the man in the black robe and scythe comes calling. All I can say is that if that edge is not sharp and shiny, I'm not giving him the time of day. Mike

Funny thread. I see your knives and think they are great. Although I only carry one ths year, my lovely AVO, and sometimes a tiny Sak is in my watchpocket.
My days of collecting lots of these and that and this kind...are pretty well gone. I do still have my mini-collection of "nice new folders" that are NIB and I don't ever carry...and so many seem to be Spyderco... Tuff, Techno. Slysz Bowie, various PM2's and Millies, and a Sage 2 in all its glory. I know there is a new SMF and a couple of CRK's in there also, but I don't take 'em out of the boxes any more.
I was hoarding a Caly 3.5 in SuperBlue, but finally gave it to a forum buddy. I was never going to take it out of the box, (too much of a purist), and this buddy is a cook and he'll delight in getting a nice patina while he prepares his Italian dinners for his family. I just could NOT sell it, as who knows what kind of a person would end up with such a wonderful knife? So it went to someone who loves it...and uses it in the way God (and Sal) intended.
At the zenith of my craziness, I had this one outstanding day, where I picked THREE lovely new folders out of the mailbox. A wonder to behold!
I've been known to slightly delay a lunch date with a neighbor couple...until after the postman dropped off my knife. My wife was sort of miffed.
Ain't it grand?

p.s. Yes, Gary, that Boker War Toad makes for an excellent study...nice work, friend.

I finally had to check... to make sure that your smiling face was in my "Friends" collection. And, yes, of course, there you are.

You guys do cheer me up! I have just one knife on the horizon right now, the BladeForums 2015 traditional folder and just one other....hmmmm seems there is always one other, but, in this case it was one I purposefully asked for a long time ago and now it's about done, a Bradford USA Guardian 3 in CPM3v with his Nimbus blade finish and toxic green/black G10 scales and pancake sheath, ground thin to win ;) and THEN I'll be set...

Almost sound like Steve Martin in 'The Jerk' at the end of the movie as he was taking just certain things was all he needed ;)

Again, thanks guys, appreciate the support and love the tales and stories so those that have fingers hovering above the keyboard, lets hear yours...

Mr X, "I believe they call it ASMR"
What is "ASMR" ?
I have to go to the P.O. to pick up my mail. Because it is a long drive i only go about once every 7-10 days. I have picked up as many as 40 packages, all containing a knife. Not bragging, confessing my illness.

Wow that is a lot of knives at one time! That always kinda did me in, getting multiple knives at the same time, one seems to always surface as the better of the bunch, which then put a dim light on the remainder... and that meant their days were numbered ;)

Age? Funds? hard to nail down, just sort of happened, could also be when I busted my ankle, it made me take stock of my life 'stuff' and things?

I'm on board with you Gary. Forced retirement 5 years ago from my motorcycle wreck curbed my funds. I have an Executive in my pocket as we speak. Only own 30 or 40 knives now. Mostly customs ,some of which i carry if going somewhere fancy. Don't know why since i never use them. But ya never know, right? Besides the "Exec", I will carry my Severtech , Leek ,or some other one hander.
The mail anticipation is a leftover from childhood when the mailman walked a beat.
Same era when you'd wave at the guys sitting in front of the firehouse with their dalmatian.

I used to be addicted to the regular stream of packages when I was knee deep in my acquisition (accumulation) stage. But now that I have a few grand into some nicer knives, I am less concerned in the gathering of mass quantity, and more interested in setting my sights a little higher and waiting for "that right one" that makes me all warm and fuzzy when I see it. Ok, admission time....I do look at a LOT of knife porn, and envy quite often. But my budget helps control my actual purchases.

A day without a USPS/UPS/FedEx/DHL package delivery is like a day without sunshine! :D

You are SO right! It's almost even worse when I see a small package out there..... only to see that it's for my wife. The disappointment seeps in, and crushes me soul.

Got a notification from somewhere in Golden Colorado that something is coming to my house tomorrow,,,unfortunately I'm in Mexico City for another 10 days :grumpy:

That is another misfortune, when you are away JUST before a package arrives, OR as in tomorrow, Holiday's take their toll on deliveries. Recently I had a UPS delivery held up in MD because of the Pope was in town...took an additional 3 days before it made it. :)

Anyone walked to the mailbox more than twice in a day bc you thought the mailman had already been by

I love when you open the door right as they get to it.. scares em a little bit...then you act like you Weren't waiting right by the door like some lunatic.
"Oh hi,, whats that? A package?! Hmmm, no clue what that could be,,, GIVE IT!!!!!" slams door

Our mail delivery time varies so much, when I go out and if it's empty, I'll wedge a leaf's stem into the top where the door meets the back stop, so I can just watch and see if the leaf has fallen or not, saves me a lot of walking ;)
