Collector....EDCer....Admirer....Addicted to packages being delivered ;-)

Our mailbox is clumped together with a couple neighbor's boxes down at the end of the driveway.

We once found a couple of our envelopes opened up. Told the neighbors, who relayed that they too appeared pilfered.

Quit getting delivery right then and there and got a post office box.

Couldn't bear the thought of some criminal getting one of my purchases. Bad enough my kids getting them when they get home.

A day without a USPS/UPS/FedEx/DHL package delivery is like a day without sunshine! :D

Lol, I was very disappointed no USPS deliverys last Monday (Columbus Day)!

When I'm stuck at work and I see my package has been delivered I can't help planning out my package opening... which knife to use to open the package, open right away or wait till the evening... so many options lol

Oh, and stop showing that dang green peanut!!!!!! everytime I see it I think I need to have one...

Believe me, you NEED that green peanut ;) I've had several offers to take it off my hands but of the peanuts I've owned I like this one the best, just has that something extra without being TOO extra, just the right amount of uniqueness in it and quite handy. I tend to use that a lot more than other knives, it turns heads but in a good way :)

All of my favorite days start with a tracking update and a the never-too-familiar sight of a flat-rate box addressed to me.

I think I'm addicted to tracking my packages. And like said in previous posts, Out For Delivery is like...YES!

"Since you do such a great job of sharpening and occasional improvement to the patterns, and often add on some of your outstanding custom leather work, I sometimes think "I hope Gary buys a knife I want so I can snag it in a week with perfect edges and a great sheath!"

I could not have said it better myself!
I too have curbed the "acquire what you desire" due to many circumstances, starting with the gift from God of a beautiful son a few years ago. Suddenly, I'm a "mature" first time dad and LOVIN' it!
However, some of Garys offerings, with his tweaks and leather prove irresistible and I am forced to succumb. Now, the rare event of anticipating a package is that much sweeter than when they were coming in at regular intervals.
As for that Case Peanut, I too am guilty of approaching G2 as to when to expect it to be on the market😏

Our mail delivery time varies so much, when I go out and if it's empty, I'll wedge a leaf's stem into the top where the door meets the back stop, so I can just watch and see if the leaf has fallen or not, saves me a lot of walking ;)

I hooked up an alarm system to the mail box that goes off in the kitchen when the mailbox is opened. Serves 2 purposes - lets me know when the mail arrives AND lets me know if some mailbox shopper is checking things out.

I did the same thing - see mailbox shopper referenced above. Used to have 1 or 2 packages a month disappear - would show delivered but I never got them. It was worst around Christmas. When one of the post offices near my parents started accepting UPS and FedEx deliveries as well, I got a mailbox there. It's 40 miles from me, so I only pick things up 1x or 2x a week, so I have delayed gratification built in. The travel is worth it with the reduced aggravation caused by thieves. All packages get shipped there. I have now had only 1 package in 5 years vanish from the system. I have had 2 knives and a hatchet not arrive but those were both on the shipper due to REALLY poor packaging.

Alarm system, that'd be cool, we're a bit out in country so that might not be the easiest thing to install here, it's pretty rural, so it's hard to tell when the mailman shows up, varies so much.

edited to add, yes sorry to be such a bad influence with the green peanut, I'm surprised that more people don't have them. I did do my special 'fix' for the blades on the peanut so when open the blades come out a bit more in line with the spine of the handle, instead of being at an angle, never cared for that look, some had more than others.

Mr X, "I believe they call it ASMR"
What is "ASMR" ?
I have to go to the P.O. to pick up my mail. Because it is a long drive i only go about once every 7-10 days. I have picked up as many as 40 packages, all containing a knife. Not bragging, confessing my illness.

"a perceptual phenomenon characterized as a distinct, pleasurable tingling sensation in the head, scalp, back, or peripheral regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, or cognitive stimuli." according to Wikipedia anyway, I just tell my family foundling my blades is relaxing.

G2 - I'm in the boonies as well. The type of "mailbox alarm" you can put in varies. Our house is "fairly" close to the road. The mailbox is 190 feet from kitchen. I found a wireless alarm transmitter a few years ago that has a 300 foot range (on paper)for $25. They also now have a 450 foot model but it's $50. If you have direct line of sight to your mailbox (no trees/brick walls/buildings in the way) and it's less than 450 ft, look at smarthome.com for details. There are also a few other wireless options out there.

I have a neighbor down the road that does not have line of sight and it's nearly 1/4" mile from the road to his house. Unlike our place, his grandfather built the home at the far back end of the property. He rented a ride-on trencher and bought underground grade wire (similar to what the phone companies use for running lines up to houses). With our "easily trenchable" soil here, he trenched it and laid out the cable in less than a day,

Have to say that I have enjoyed reading the comments on this thread.

I found this particularly humorous. But, I do precisely the same thing with my garbage can as the garbage people are very unpredictable in terms of pickup. So, I often put a bit of a branch and let the leaves hang out a little so I can tell if it has been picked up.

UPS and USPS package delivery is a pretty common thing for me. Today I received a cable for my car gps (for updating maps) as I lost or misplaced the original. Thought they were all the same model to model.... nope.

As a kid, I frequently was sending out letters/post cards requesting catalogs, tourist stuff and so forth. Yes, I said post cards.... Do they even exist any more? I got more mail than my parents at times. :D

No knives ordered right now. I keep getting emails from various online retailers and "don't want to look". Now is not the time to be spending $100's on knives. I have more than enough. But I do like to get boxes in the mail.

I know. Those fake holidays (i.e., only gov't gets to take the day off) are especially irksome. I was waiting on a delivery that day too. Had to wait all the way till Tuesday. It was agonizing! :grumpy::D

It's like those old movies where the guy leaving his room sticks a match or something between the door and the frame, so on his return...he can tell right away if the door had been opened and possibly bad guys are waiting inside, in my case...a box may be waiting inside ;)

Just checked the mail, figured it was still a little early for a Saturday but you never know, had my ipod touch with me and took a shot of the added tell tale marker leaf ;)

and today...this showed up :)

Bradford USA Guardian 3 in CPM3v with his Nimbus blade finish and black/green toxic scales, I've added an embossing on his sheath and making a vertical adapter so I can also carry the knife vertical too.

G2, Always great posts and what can I say about your pics that hasn't been said already. Beautiful.

I'm in the same boat. Dwindling the "collection" down to what I use and carry.
