Collectorknives.net #85 SFO?

I got my liner lock today and it doesn't bother me.
the tab does not interfere with a comfortable hold when the blade is open.
It's great!

My new Antique Yellow Bone EO #85 just arrived in time for T-Bone Tuesday! :D

I just took a bunch of photos and then back into the slip pouch and into my pocket it went. I am liking this knife a lot more than I expected. This one is a winner for sure. Thanks Mike!

Awesome! I'm glad it worked out, as I really felt your pain and was going offer to help out if it didn't. :)

Yes, missed the boat on the smooth bone and antique yellow. Went back to snag a smooth bone and they were gone. Ah well. Too many knives, too little money.

Exactly right. It's what prevented me from ordering both. I could have, but then I would have to miss out on other cool knives.

This run is a bit special though.

I don't have pics yet, but I did receive the buffalo horn, yellow jigged bone and smooth ivory bone. These knives are just beautiful, all of them. This is my first buffalo horn knife and with the white swirls it really is a looker. The quality of these blades is top notch. I'm so glad I saw this thread. And kudos to Mike at Collector Knives. Very good service all around and timely shipping.

Fantastic offering from Mike. My favorite place to visit when I need (who am I kidding, want) a new cutting tool

Me too. My expectations were greatly exceeded. I didn't even care that much for this pattern in its standard form, but I was pretty well blown away when I got these SFO's. Very, very nice.

Nice pictures.

Exactly how I felt. The little touches like the satin finish, the matchstrike, and the bone really set it off. I'm happy I saved up and watched for this run.

Just got home and got the African Blackwood Jack (and a Queen Gunstock Jack)..... I'll post pics tomorrow, but it is very sweet. Thanks a lot Mike. I'm very appreciative of your customer service on this. :)

These knives are great! I like my Antique Yellow Jack so much that I ended up ordering two of the single blade African Black Woods (one for myself and one for my father). The locking tab on these do not at all interfere with my grip on the knife when open. I was especially worried about this as the liner locking #73s do interfere with my grip, but with these #85s, I have no problem with the lock-tab. The fit and finish is outstanding on these knives. They have centered blades, zero blade play, and tight liner locks. I will be sure to do a photo shoot sometime tomorrow during the day.

On a side note... I was wondering if anyone could give me some advise on a small issue I noticed with my Antique Yellow #85... I have noticed that there is a very small flat spot on the edge approximately halfway up the blade. It looks as though it might have been caused by the back of the springs or liners. I'm wondering, is this something I should just fix by re-profiling the blade with a new edge, or is this a problem that GEC should fix? I don't have a problem with sending it back to GEC for adjustments. I'm just not exactly sure why the flat spot on the edge occurred (I have not used the knife as of yet). I was thinking the blade might need to be adjusted to keep it from hitting the back-springs/liners upon closing (if that is what caused the flat spot). Any advise or knowledge concerning this would be greatly appreciated.

Burnside, that isn't uncommon with the #85s. Its caused by letting the blade snap shut on its own as it hits the back spring. You can sharpen it out, GEC would do the same. I've adjusted to closing the main blade on my user #85s all the way rather than letting it snap. I also added some paper to the hump in the back spring as padding in case I forget and let it fly. I saw others recommend a paper matchstick in the past and it works quite well too.
