Come to the Snark side

Congrats, Julio!

Speaking of zombies and death cards, I had a thought recently.

OK fine, now that ya'll have stopped laughing about ol' JT actually having a thought, let's move on, shall we?

Everybody cuts water-bottles to show how keen their knives are.

How come nobody cuts frozen water bottles?

You mean, like, with water in them? Because it's a dumb idea, that's why. Everyone knows the one true test of a blade is cutting through an airborne watermelon.

LMAO!! Well prolly because it would damage quite a few edges LOL

Sounds like a sissy excuse to me

Obviously, I'm just thinking out loud... but really now... a knife that can cut through a 3" wide water bottle has to be really sharp, we all know that. A knife that can cut/bash through a chunk of 3" thick ice at high speed has to be really tough.

How come no one's tried doing both at once? Has someone tried it? Is it impossible? Could it be done in one slash or would it require repeated chopping/beating the dang thing into submission type movements?

Maybe someone has tried it and it just doesn't work. I don't know.

Never mind, forget I asked. Carry on.

I believe this brainstorm and your .sig are having a little argument on the side. :D

lost evening here. sick housemate.

Isn't it cold in TN this time of year? Surely you have an empty bottle or two and a knife worthy of such an experiment. Just remember to catch it on video.

Such are the conundrums that present themselves when one is a genius... or a damn fool. There's only one way to determine which is which. If I were a gambling man... never mind, let's not go there.

No kidding? What a remarkable concept! I sure wish I'd thought of that.

:p

Snow's coming down pretty good here. Supposed to get 4 to 7". I love snow. That is all.

That's what I'm here for. Pointing out the obvious and encouraging pointless shenanigans.:D

I think this one is going to mostly miss us. Most of the snow here is melted except for some of the bigger piles from the plows.

I would.... But its too cold right now.

Plus i got these awesome scales for it.... But no hardware to put them on.

Word. Is it warm enough there to go out and do an outdoor review of it in use??

It was about 60 in town today. Not sure what the conditions are up on the mountain where I have to go to test stuff. Probably some snow up there.

We're supposed to get another few inches tomorrow into Sunday.....mixed with rain :grumpy:. On top of the 6 feet of snow already on the ground and temps predicted to be in the single digits again by Monday, I predict absolute chaos. I would rather, at this point, that it were all snow. Best Buy an Barnes & Noble have been closed for the last few days (along with most of the other stores in that mall) since a crack appeared in the ceiling at B&N, they think due to the snow load on the roof. Crews have been shovelling it off, but there is a LOT of it and it's taken a couple days. There have been a few roof collapses here, and they decided better safe than sorry. I love snow, too. But sometimes.....

Mid to upper 50's with sunshine all weekend...
I wish winter would hurry up and pass. :D

I'll bet you are sick of it gsom.

I envy you. I enjoy having seasons, but when it is just cold without snow, winter does get old much more quickly.

That's the way I feel. If it's gonna be cold, may as well have the snow with it. We're getting ready to go for a small ride in the country. I just cleaned the snow off the car. I'd say we have a solid 3" so far. Really coming down in big, beautiful flakes.

Reinhardt's taking too long...

ordered a Kabar Mk1 a couple minutes ago. Have some plans involving a stag crown handle. Anyone know where you can hand pick a crown you want?

yup...

so i ordered some GK Khukris and some snowshoes (esp seeing as how my regular 11 yo snowshoes shited themselves (might be repairable, don't care) - prespending a bonus.

real khukris and real good hiking gear - i'll be more active if it kills me

I dunno either.... But ill be asking Dan if he has ever tried it.... Or if he would, next time we talk. If anyone can do it, i believe he would be the guy to do it. But id still believe it would take a few chops/whacks before getting through the ice.

And just for the hell of it ill throw a bottle of water in the freezer... I got some 3V around here with some excellent heat treat that i believe could hold up to the ice without any damage. I shall see... I dont expect to make it through the bottle in a single swing at all... But it will be a fun test. :D

Went for a small ride in the country. The snow was coming down hard, and was a little hypnotizing in the headlights, haha. Was hard to see the road at times, especially when the road hadn't been traveled yet. It's stopped for now.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
