Comfort knife?

Any of these. One-eighth inch increments from 3-1/2" to 4-1/8".

No comfort patterns, but I do find great comfort and solace in jigged bone scales that have gone smooth with time. No idea why, maybe because they were someone's worry stone ;).

Most comfortable for me are 4" Stockmans - like a Buck 301. 4" Muskrats like an OT fit me will as well as the bigger Jacks.

I don't know if I have any other knife than my peanut that could qualify as a comfort knife. I find myself sometimes slipping hand into a pocket to use the peanut as a worry stone. The jigging in the bone, the overall feel of the familiar shape, all gives a comforting feeling knowing it's there. Yeah, my peanut is my comfort knife.

Cattle Knife: Classic size of 3 5/8", steel of thicker stock with spear, sheepsfoot and pen blades, bone scales. I have quite a few of these in customs and antiques and rotate regularly through several. Feels just right!

Sorry, no pics. Cannot seem to get into Photobucket this morning.

Several patterns complete that feel for me. My favorite is the mini copperhead, but I'm fine with several other patterns. I like thin knives. I like single blade knives because they are thin and don't have blades poking my fingers when I use it. But, to pick out the one pattern that makes me feel complete is the MCH:

Hmmm....
This is another tough question.

I like SAKs (they ARE traditional...)
But that's not really what you mean by "pattern".
I'd have to say Sodbusters.

It may sound stupid but I just have to ask. Does a certain pattern or style of a knife just comforts you? I mean, when u carry a certain knife it just makes you feel complete. ... So what's ur comfort knife?

Since I've been a kid I always seem to come back to some variation of a two-blade jack. For years it was a Schrade 33OT Middleman Jack. These days, it's my peanut.

BTW, cool idea for a thread, FarmKid.

The 2011 forum knife in its nice leather pocket sheath. I love leather as a material, and like my trusty belt, this sheath just gets better and more beautiful ever day.

The knife in itself is perfect. EO broad blade with nice belly. It looks good, is comfortable, and the caplifter makes this the knife I carry when I dont know what else to carry. If I ever loose it id be devastated. They are so hard to come by now, and i dont want a regular #85 because they cant be had with the caplifter.

Great replies guys! It's blusterous cold here in sw Virginia and was out early making sure the beef was still on the hoof; believe it or not I reached in my pocket of my bibs and their was my medium stockman. Yeah it cut the bailing twine but I felt a lil disappointed that my trapper wasn't there. I got the idea for this thread from my elders. My grandfather, dad, and I always carried larger knives and this summer we tried something different. We like all knives but dad went back to a trapper, papaw back to a large queen half congress. They was saying that it was different every time they used a knife just not having what they are used to.

Good thread Farm Kid!. My very favorite comfort pocket knives are a few special Stockman patterns. I have a great fondness for the Harness Jacks (because of the punch)as well. But specifically, Stockman's with a 'punch' blade/tool or an 'awl' as Pipeman(Robin) terms it. Like Robin, I have multiple uses for a punch blades and along with a good clip blade, spear and spey blade, I have found walking out of my home with a pocket knife that doesn't include a punch leaves me uncomfortable and lacking that essential tool to complement the others. My favorite Case brand Stockman patterns are the, 64047P, 6347PU and the 6318PU in that order. I also really like the older German made Boker Stockmans that include punch blades.

As for sheath knives, I must have a decent small to medium drop point or Bowie sticker on my belt.. With this and the above aforementioned I am a comfortable confident lets get-r-done old boy..

My comfort knife is what ever I have in my RFP. It's almost always a locking single blade folder with a blade around 3" long. Usually an Opinel and if not that, a Buck lock back.

I should amend this. I feel naked and discomforted if I don't have my Leatherman Micra in my LFP. Just too useful.

This is my standard comfort carry.

Today, the Opinel is replaced with this Buck 500. Just a variation on a theme though.

The one pattern I tend to gravitate towards is the jack pattern, mainly easy open jacks. My two favorites right now happen to be these two.
And if I'm not grabbing a jack, I'll usually have a Swiss Army on me.

I like to carry single blade slip joints a lot, but for comfort it's always a full-sized trapper.

I would have to agree with some others and say the peanut. I also like the medium stockman.

I really like knives roundabout 3.5" closed lenght. So the mighty #66 Serpentine Jack comes in mind.

My GEC #53 cattle knife is carried nearly every day. That 4 1/8" knife has kicked my 3.5" case stockman out of my pocket. My one pattern is the stockman/cattle knife.
