Comfort knife?

Comfort knife for me would have to be a stockman 3 7/8" plus. One other item I learned to not be with out is my old leatherman PST, as a volunteer fireman you never knew where or when you may need to help and the PST fits in the LF pocket. Great thread thanks to all.

My "comfort knife" would have to be a decent size single blade lockback. This one in particular.... Queen 3L
(If you look closely, in the second pic, you can see it at work.) :)

Great subject! I agree 100% that some knives are comfort knives. I've got alot of good one-hand openers, but somehow they don't fill the bill as a "comfort knife". For me it needs to be a traditional design, my favorite being a large stockman.

My Case

I recently bought an EKA Swede #8 with Bubinga wood handles that also qualifies.

Since I was an 8 year old farm boy it's been a Barlow with a Spear Main Blade. 50 years now. Not the same Barlow, but the same Farm Boy.

Andi, I finally have one of those coming to me. Yours and the rotten banana bone one that Doug has finally pulled me over center and I fell for a stag handled one in the exchange.

I'll be showing it on here when it arrives. I don't know if it will replace my MCH as my comfort knife though, but I'll bet I'll like it.

Ed, believe me - you will really like your #66 Serpentine Jack. I think you won´t regret buying it. It´s a great handy knife, imo.

This pattern will look great in stag, too. I´m looking forward seeing pics of your gem, when it arrives. :)

i dont know if it counts, and i dont carry it everyday
BUT if i dont know what to expect from my day, or if i know the weather is going to be bad, i tend to throw my Wenger SI in my pocket
i guess having the tools is a comfort when i dont know what to expect *shrugs*

My 'comfort knife' has always been a large stockman (4", give or take). That's what I keep coming back to, on the occasions I've tried others. And when carrying more than one knife, a stockman is always among them. Over time, I've jumped around between makes (Case, Buck, Queen; lately the Schrade 8OT), but the pattern itself has been a constant for a long time.

Maybe because i still looking for that "perfect one"(so many to try, patterns, materials, etc) for now it is enough that i have sharp knife in pocket.

My comfort knife is any well made Sardinian folder, in any of the three patterns, and reasonable size.
I carry and use other knives (actually, I almost never pocket carry a Sardinian folder), but when it's time to cut, they feel so familiar to me, more than any other knife will ever be. Or so I guess.

Scout knife, including Victorinox. Lately Barlow is challenging that, since the extra tools are on a swisstech on my keychain. I like the solid feel of the long bolsters (solid only).
Vic on left was bought by my parents when I was 10. It says Elinox on one side and Victorinox on the other. Little Vic is a terribly handy knife I carried for decades. Imperial boy scout is the sort I'm carrying a lot now. Ulster Barlow is my best Barlow, still newish to me but I like it a lot.

I have a 40+ year old Case Barlow that my Father carried as beat cop (21 years) in Pittsburgh. I also have his S&W 19 revolver which is a gem. I am hesitant to carry this knife because I don't want anything bad to happen to it. I'll carry it occasionally deep in my front right pocket on weekends. Last summer we went camping with the family and I trimmed up a couple of sticks for cooking hot dogs with my kids / grand kids. I wanted to tell them the story of the knife but I couldn't do it. I would have made it a kill joy. Some things are just so personal that they cannot be easily related to others. I take it out often and hold it/use it and think of my father. I wish I could pass along all these beliefs and memories but the young people just don't seem to want anything to do with the past.

I hate to say it in the traditional forum, but my comfort knife is a Victorinox multitool. With it, I feel like I can handle anything.

For many years, it was a SAK (Huntsman).

60's small Case Stockman, pocket worn mini copperlock & a cv sbj. Soon I'll be carrying a backpocket, just waiting on a sheath from RayBan!

I have really limited experience with traditional folders as I have only a Buck 301 Stockman. I just really like having it in my pocket. Reaching in my pocket, feeling it and knowing that it is there ready when I need it.

I have a single blade Case sowbelly. I have tried many slipjoints and I am always checking my pocket to see if it is still there. I really like it. Very slim and comfortable. It fits my hand perfectly and is my goto knife even if I am carrying a modern locking knife or stanley slide razor knife.
