Comfort knife?

No particular pattern but I really like a single blade slippy in my pocket. On too of that the size should be between 3.5 to 4 inches. Pure perfection for my lifestyle :)

I wish I could pass along all these beliefs and memories but the young people just don't seem to want anything to do with the past.
You can write this sort of stuff down for your own benefit, and the kids might read it someday when of quiet enough mind to appreciate it.

I'd like to say that my comfort knife is the Victorinox Pioneer. It has all the tools I tend to use most frequently (with nothing superfluous) which makes for a very compact and pocket friendly package. It's good-looking enough to be dressy, plain enough to be casual, strong enough to be a worker.

But perhaps my real comfort knife is the little Vic Rambler that lives on my keychain. It allows me to carry other knives without feeling like I'm sacrificing access to alternate tool options... it is my one true EDC! :)

. . . My favorite Case brand Stockman patterns are the, 64047P, 6347PU and the 6318PU in that order. I also really like the older German made Boker Stockmans that include punch blades. . . .

I was just offline chatting up a storm with another member who asked me about one of my favorite comfort knives I posted on this thread. The Case #64047P. He said he tried to look this model up but to no avail.. :( .. I told him its a model that has long been discontinued by Case and has not been produced since the 1970's.. So here's a few pix.. :)

I know this thread was started with me just being comfortable with a certain knife. Just picked up a new case sowbelly and let me tell ya it may b my new comfort knife. It's my first sowbelly and this is what I have been looking for in a knife. Perfect fit and finish, bulky in the hand but rides well in the pocket, strong pulls, and a generous spey blade with a great angle for doing what it was intended to do. Let me tell ya I love this knife.

For me it's probably a scout knife, Vic recruit right now. Whether something needs cut, screwed, or a bottle opened it has enough tools to handle those tasks that pop up regularly. There may be other patterns or knives that get carried more but with this I feel like I can get by on most tasks that need taken care of.

Post a pic! :D

I was given, in response to my request, I'm sure, a four blade scout knife during my Cub Scout years (late 1940's), then spent hours and hours drooling over the floor model Robeson display in my father's hardware store (when I was supposed to be sweeping the floor, stocking shelves, etc.) Sometime in my teens I lost interest in pocket knives and that continued until ca.1968 when my wife and I were doing some camping and, of course, a pocket knife was needed. I went with a friend to several stores and finally purchased a Boker stockman. I have no memory of what other knives I rejected to choose this one. That was a stressful period for me and I started carrying a pocket knife regularly, primarily as a comfort object that connected me with a (perhaps seemingly) simpler time and a more enjoyable place to live. From that time on I've carried a pocketknife every single day. The models have changed and I doubt I carried the same knife for more than a year, more typically changing every week or two. I was always looking for the "right" knife, convinced that next one I'd purchase would be it and that it would make my life complete! These knives have included traditionals, one hand folders (Spyderco), and a couple of customs. Despite all the inconvenience associated with today's air travel what is most irritating is that I can't carry a pocket knife-even a Vic Classic would suffice.

. Here's my trusty trapper and my new sowbelly. Plus a new pair of redwings I'm breaking in.

That sowbelly sure looks beefy alongside your trapper. Nice one!

akadave, you're right, that one certainly does have lots of mojo! Talk about "pocket worn," wow!!

I really like knives roundabout 3.5" closed lenght. So the mighty #66 Serpentine Jack comes in mind.

I agree with Uncle Andi. With thanks to Doug, this #66 Rotten Jack is becoming a "comfort knife"

I like your Sowbelly, FarmKid!. Great pattern with sweet looking jigged bone too.. Very  indeed!

Wonderful Comfort knives one and all.. :)

Best,
Anthony

Thanks sunnyd! The only down side is that it's a bit heavy, heavier than the trapper and the sheep foot is thin and digs in your hand a lil when using the knife. It's flawless in the fit and finish department.
