It arrived today. I was very happy to see my girl back safe. She kept talking about other guys with big hands though. :grumpy:

Something about the Nightman knife really appeals to me. Looks tough and useful and a little bit rustic. I hope we see more work from him when he safely returns home.

To the testers/reviewers, I want to thank you all for your nice remarks about my entry. You guys undertook a pretty big task and did a nice job of it all the way around.

Nice trio set of reviews for the Nightman, X39 and Koyote (missing Tony's right now). What a massive variety in blade shapes across just these three let alone the first set!

I kind of like Christof's pinky jimping and those spine crosses. Its just cool little set of innovations to the blade. The back end does look a bit big but as Big Mike says but I'd have to hold onto it to come to my own conclusion. Koyote's Mill Skinner Pattern blade that I have has pretty much the most comfortable handle among any in my collection. He really does know his ergo's!

I like that X39 design quite a bit too. Looks compact and efficient and amazing F&F. I can't believe how that G10 conforms so perfectly to that aggressively tapered tang like that! Following Tony's comments on blade shape, I'm (at present) also a bit more inclined towards spear points for bush applications. However, I wouldn't change a thing on this knife. It looks great with that blade profile!

I also really liked the looks of Donovan Phillips knife. I had never heard of the horse mat handle before, and I was curious as to what the testers would say about the M4 blade. I really want a fixed in M4 and I liked this style.

The tapered tang on the Phillips knife looks great. I've yet to attempt tang tapering:o

Bruce,
I had a chance to handle your knife when camping with Tony ...man, thats a sweet blade, and I can see why it ISNT going home to you.
Between yours and Rick's...I cant guess the winner..but my bets are on you 2 for sure!:D

Thanks gunknifenut:thumbup:.
Your knife looks alot better than my first ones did.

Tell that Rick character that second place is the first looser!:p

I bet that M4 cuts, and cuts, and cuts, and cuts, and cuts, and cuts.....
and then when it finally does get dull it might take a few more minutes to sharpen up again.

looking good so far guys... thanks to reviewers and makers for all the hard work..:)

 I'll take that.... so far they are all winners.... get 3 more guys to review the same batch and you'll get even more varied results. I value any criticism from experienced users... If all they did was tell you the good stuff there is no incentive for improvement.;)

Rick

You are right Rick ever user/tester will have different preferences in a knife. As a maker (or user) there is something to learn from each entry in this contest whether it is from a new or seasoned maker.

When I posted that quote I assume that I'll finish behind you as per past contests:o I was just trying to stir the pot a little.....

Good to see Tony's reviews of Bruce's and Grey Wolf entries. That Grey Wolf blade looks like the classic Woodlore and seems to cut like a scandi should. Sweet! As for Bruce's, I can totally see why Tony breakdown and bought that one. I don't think I'd be able to resist buying if it were placed in my hands either. Looks like a great blade!

Thanks for the compliments guys. A tapered tang is what I prefer on my personal knives so I feel my customers deserve the same. More work but I feel its worth it.

I am a little biased towards Nicks work, but based on the look of his entry and my experience with his knives, the NWA is probably my favorite. Hope he gets back to knifemaking soon as I want one of those!

NWA obviously kicked ass in BigMike's and Marcelo's eyes. Haven't seen Tonym's comments yet but it sure seemed to be a great performer. I think Nick nailed the size dimensions on this one for versatility. Really impressed how well it did in the cutting performance. Always new his knives were lookers, didn't realize they performed that well in the sharp department. Looks like a great blade.

Edit - huh, I would have thought having a birds beak would help out with the chicken dance.....
