Comments on this year's BF Knife Process.

Charlie, John, and everyone who has helped make this year a go, Thank You!!!
I agree with the rest, the selection was very smooth. Thanks for the leadership.

Maybe I missed it, but I had no idea there was a limit to the available knives. I can't help but think that there are at least a few people who thought there was more time to come up with the funds, or just decide weather they wanted one, or like me thought I had time to decide if I wanted to pony up for a second. Not that there wasn't enough time, IMO there certainly was, but someone deserving still might have missed it for whatever reason.

I absolutely agree that asking John for more free stag would be in poor taste, and I applaud your effort to find some more stag. How about buying some more? I will put my money where my mouth is and pledge $10 to help cover the cost of stag for anybody who has posted in the traditional forum (anything other than a giveaway entry) before today and missed out thinking time wasn't up yet.

If we have any regulars who missed out and my $10 can help, please let me know.
I certainly hope I can get an order in later! I'd be willing to pay for stag as well.
I hadn't made my mind up between ordering 1 or 2. :o

This is my first time getting in on the forum knife and I agree that the process was very smooth. Thanks Charlie and all involved for making it happen.
About the only hiccup I noticed was when the gremlins got loose in Charlie's paypal account and threw a spanner in the works. Kudos to Charlie and Paypal for getting that sorted out quickly.

Frankly, couldn't BE better.

I liked the idea of a limited selection being proposed by a person in the know. Stops all that inane and insane banter about "we need xyz and it has to have 123" then factor in unrealistic demands that can't be put into production and petulant behaviour etc:rolleyes:

It was a swift and effective process too.

Finally, Charlie pulled off a Masterstroke by setting up the Eric's Jack project as well, this way we have a Forum Knife for the majority and a Forum Special for the significant minority as well. Who can moan about that??? Great move.

Regards, Will

Me, I want to know how you did it. How did you bring the knife to fruition so quickly, with such clear communication, at such a wonderful price point?

How?

Or: as this is perhaps not the arena for full disclosure, I am hopeful that whomever attempts to do this next will have the benefit of your insights and expertise on these matters, including how you were somehow able to winkle the project away from a problematic middleman and pass the benefits of other makers' good will directly on to the forum members.

In which I'm mostly trying to say:

THANK YOU.

~ P.

Very well put P

We started off looking at the strong possibility of not having a forum knife this year, and then in stepped in Super Charlie and his team, and since then I really don't think it could have gone better. Thanks Charlie, and well done, thank you for contributing so much of your time, knowledge, and energy to doing something (else) for our little community here. Thanks to John Lloyd and to everyone who has helped to snatch triumph from the jaws of disaster, great work folks

Exactly, Jack. It was a worrisome start but turned out to be amazing. Looking back to 2013's poll-a-thon, this format was not only more streamlined but, dare I say, more of an adventure because we didn't know what the choices would be; only that we had faith that they would all be desirable. At $76 it could have been a leg knife fashioned after the lamp from A Christmas Story and it still would have sold.

Only complaint is that the 2-blade lost. So I had to buy 2 knives - because that's how math works. :D

Thats my kinda logic bro.

Charlie, you guys did an amazing job this year, and this is meant to be taken as constructive criticism, but if there was one flaw in the process, it was that you didn't make clear that orders would be (hopefully only temporarily) stopped after 300. I probably would've worked on getting the funds together quicker if I had known that. Not to be construed as a flame or anything like that.

Too early for me to add anything to be of help, I'm still trying to get that first cup of coffee, I just wanted to subscribe so I can find this thread more easily when I'm more awake.

Once again, I apologize for being misleading on that. But it ain't over 'till it's over.

Charlie, after all you've done to bring us the 2014 Forum Knife -- before you stepped up it was pretty clear there probably would NOT be a 2014 Forum Knife -- let us know what we can do to help. For starters, I will match Stu's pledge of $10 to help cover the cost of stag.

As for this year's process, it was superb. I don't know how you managed it along with your TC Barlow SFOs and Eric's Jack SFO and life in general, but we're grateful that you took the reigns.

Thoughts for the next forum knife process: Whomever leads the project will do well to seek Charlie's guidance and wisdom at the outset.

Charlie thank you and everyone else involved in this years forum knife very much for all your hard work To make things go smoothly. Glad I got one. Haven't been a habitual poster in traditionals but plan on changing that and would help however Ivan next year. On a side I saw suggestions of sodbuster and peanut but was thinking a nice small stockman (ala 1080t in size) would be nice as there doesn't seem to be min of an offering at that size and it is a personal favorite for edc. Of course the needs( or rather wants) of the group are paramount.

I have no comments other than thank you to everyone involved in making the this year's Bladeforums knife a reality. I am also very happy that I got my order in prior to the 300 knife limit.

Charlie -

It was a pleasure to work with you on the 2011 knife, your help and knowledge were greatly appreciated by Campbell, Chris and myself.

I look forward to see the BF Traditional Knife each year, and this one is even more special with the very special donated stag!

I am happy to assist next year in any capacity needed when the time comes, as are many more people from this great bunch of knife lovers.

Thanks for all you do!

best

You set the way it was going to be conducted, then stuck with it even as people whined about additional choices and details. The process went super smooth on our end, and the choices were perfect. In short, you organized a killer deal on a great knife! Thank you for all of the hard work:)

I stated this before, but I think any surplus funds go directly to you! Maybe in future years we can fund the forum knife in such a way as the organizer gets their knife free, or there is a couple of dollars added to the cost so the organizer get compensated for time and headaches.

Stu, and Al - all those who pledged a donation, I appreciate the gesture very much. Thank you!
I will not let it come to that, but it is comforting to know you people have my back!!

When this one is done, I think I will take a break for a while.

I think you handled everything, including the attempted Paypal sabotage, like a champ. You deserve a break and I can understand why you would want one, however, I hope this does not mean no more TC Barlows in the pipeline.

I do not have any other constructive comments - there are none needed - I do not think anyone could have handled it better.

You may be gettin' a little old, but, way too young to retire from designing those great SFO's. ;):)

I also have to say for those that, so far, are respectfully complaining of the cut off, I believe this was made plain, if you read through the pages - to get your orders in sooner than later. Any time you have a limited production knife, experience has taught me to get in line and order fast if you want to have the best chance of getting what you want. I believe that there would be a bit of complaining at the end, even if it continues on to 400 or so. With that said, I hope everyone that wanted a knife gets one. ;)

I've been very happy with how smoothly the process has gone this year - thanks to Charlie and the rest of the team!

If you cannot source more stag -- would jigged bone run the cost up much?
I would be willing to take delivery of a jigged bone version of the 2014 knife if it meant someone else could have a stag one.
