Hope I'm in the right forum. I need to vent a bit.
I'm finding this happen again and again. As a seller, a potential buyer will reach out to me that they're interested in a knife/knives. We come to a price and then I never hear back from the person again. Whether you want to buy or not, I think it's just common courtesy to let the seller know one way or the other. I find it rude to just leave me hanging. I'll reach out to them and just ask if they can let me know, that I'd appreciate it. But they don't. I wish some buyers would be cognizant of this and please let the seller know your intention. Thank you to all potential buyers.

I don't know what it is. Maybe they have a sense of embarrassment if they don't want to buy?
I just think it's only right to give the seller closure so he can move on. I don't care if you change your mind and decide you don't want to buy, someone else will come along. A simple, "I can't buy right now", is all it takes. Twenty seconds of their time.

But when the dumbasses post I'll take it - then don't - it does decrease the likelihood of selling with that ad. That's one of the reasons I used to insist on all claims via PM or email (now I just close the ads to eliminate the option of posting)

Yeah, that's a good idea. I'm dealing with someone now who's interested in buying four knives from me. All in mint condition in box with paperwork, etc. I paid a total of $1812 for them and offered them at $1300. Now he's asking a friend whom he states, "knows about knives", to help him decide if it's a good deal. A Todd Begg Steelcraft Field Marshall in Damasteel, SBD Apex, A. Purvis Xerx, and a Quiet Carry Waypoint. Can't wait to see what his "expert" has to say.

Can you update the thread with posts like 'offer pending'? Adding a note on the original post that pending offers must be resolved within a limited period (2 days, 72 hours, etc.) or you will be open to other bids. You snooze, you lose. ;)

Not a seller, so I don't know the rules. Will shut up now. 😳

I think the subject line for this thread could cover a lot of situations. I’ve noticed more than ever that people are fine with not replying to messages, texts, emails, even when it seems like it would be the normal thing to do. Maybe because they feel anonymous online.

Good point. I'm only relating it to what I would do as a buyer. I'd never just leave a seller without giving them a final answer within a reasonable amount of time. Putting yourself in the other person's shoes.

I think some buyers lose sight of the fact that on this exchange, they are dealing with fellow hobbyists, rather than typical online businesses. Maybe they don't see it as any different than putting an item in their cart, changing their mind, and taking it out of their cart.
It's not an excuse, but doesn't surprise me. I wonder if it happens less with members who participate more in discussion forums than mainly on the exchange.

This was my first post in a discussion forum. I sold some knives a few years ago, but five weeks ago I made the decision to sell off most of my collection. I've sold thirty knives so far with roughly 150 left. Going to keep some of my favorites. I've had a number of experiences where I was just left in the lurch and that prompted me to make my original post.
Kind of disappointing because for the most part, I've found the people in the hobby to be very nice folks, could say a brotherhood of sorts.

Additionally, the Moderation staff are always very responsive to requests I've put in the past when this happens. If someone posts in your thread "I'll take it" or "PM sent", and then they vanish, I simply report the comments and request that they be deleted from the thread. Plenty of people won't even open a thread if they see it's got comments already, they just move on to the next, so I try to stave that off as much as possible when selling.

Lol, that's just one example. I'm dealing with a guy now who first wanted four knives, then two, then one. This morning we spoke on the phone, agreed on a price. I'm still waiting for the money.
Going to text him tonight and tell him if I don't have the money by Saturday morning, I'm going to list it at the original price I wanted and if he wants it, he'll have to pay the original price. He was telling me how busy he is. Well, what does it take to make a PayPal payment? Less than a minute. Lost my patience with these momo's.

For sure. I had a guy last week that wanted more pics than I posted, closeups of every part of the knife, video of me flipping and closing it. I gave him everything he asked for, then he tells me doesn't even have the money for the asking price. Unreal.
It’s almost to where I don’t want to answer anything other than “I’ll take it” lol

Just heard back from a SELLER after 7+ months waiting for specs on his item!! Imagine if the comms are this poor before the purchase/sale…you really have to wonder about the rest of the transaction and any problems that may need attention.
