Companies need to start issuing verified third-party HRC tests.

So you haven't had to discard any knives? All of them have worked for you?

I have not had to discard any knives based on performance but my acquisition process is far more detailed than most people here. A few have gone back to manufacturers for warranty replacement/repair.

So all of them have performed adequately without the additional testing you've described. So, in terms of cost, how much more would you be willing to pay for the kind of testing you're describing? Particularly since your current knives, that haven't had that testing, have all by your own admission served just fine.

Maybe it would be useful at this time to name some other regular consumer goods that go through rigorous lab testing and come to market with trusted 3rd party certificates of performance.

Correct, I've had to persue alternative aftermarket testing and weighted evaluation to come to consensus. For instance, I've never purchased a knife without holding one in my hands and speaking to a current owner.

By following one of the various ISO 9000 family standards it would alleviate that research and provide the average customer with more data to make an informed decision.

I would be happy to pay the portion of a portion of a percent increase in the he final price to have more assurance in the quality of a product. To put this in perspective, the juice box your children drink go through significantly more QA to meet federal, state, local, and industry compliance while seeing no appreciable cost increase when documented processes are followed.

It would significantly reduce the onus on me since I'm forced to test using non-ideal means.

Then you are very lucky!

What's a portion of a portion of a percent? I think the safety of a child's food might be more important than a knife hrc.

I can very literally guarantee that the testing you propose would come at a very significant cost increase. If you think it would be less than 1%, as you seem to imply, I can only assure you that you're badly mistaken.

False. Testing is not expensive at all. Many tests can be also be performed for free.

Potato Chip Bags are subject to FDA testing and yet potato chips are not expensive. Some brands only once one dollar. If the testing was so expensive then the chips would cost much more.

Dodge/Jeep gearboxes. I hear they use famous actors to test them.

What's a portion of a portion of a percent?

Far less than 1% of total manufacturing costs given the costs associated with production knife materials and labor.

I think the safety of a child's food might be more important than a knife hrc.

Indeed, yet juice box costs continue to remain low.

This is literally my day job. I'm confident in my claim.

If it's your day job you should rather easily be able to give us a solid quote on the price per unit to do verified third part hardness testing.

Can't breathe....too much literally.....everywhere!

Have always loved the false equivalency fallacy. You can shoehorn it into literally any argument.

Viagra...I mean, that's what I heard...from a friend
This is the kinda heat treatment I can get into! I’d love to hear the specs on it and the details should be very interesting. However I’ll have to let another 3rd party do the verification. I don’t know if I could make it through the process. :p:D

And yet the addictive poison still makes it to the store shelves.

I put an Opinel in my pocket today. It’s sharp and it cuts stuff. I wish there was a popcorn emoji.:D
