As I am fondling my Sebenza as I type, I certainly would enjoy a Wharnie blade option. One thing that catches my eye, though, is that you would only be able to lower the end point on the blade about 1/4". Then it starts approaching with the rear bushing. So the blade profile would probably have a little more belly than the Irie.
Great idea, though, Gary. Make sure you let us know if you will pursue this with CRK.

Thanks Barry, it's been persued for a while now, but this time with a scan showing a side by side comparison view.

Here are a few threads that spoke the name wharncliff with in them, there were others but these show some older dates...

Wharncliff style blades are great. I would love to have one as well.
Gary- You have been working on this for quite some time haven't you?

I'm a big fan of Wharcliffe blades. I'm a recent convert to Sebenza's, I would love a Wharnie Sebenza!

To answer an earlier question "Why mess with something that isn't broken?"

It TO GIVE US KNIFE KNUTS SOMETHING ELSE TO COLLECT:p

I'll take one of those.......and one of those.......and one of those.......and one of those.......and one of those.......and one of those.......:D

As far as CRK goes, they are always working on something, I just wanted to add some thoughts and desires to their thinking...

G2,

While I like the modified Wharncliff blade idea I have a few comments.

The existing Sebenza geometry would need some changes I think in order for this to work. (I’m sure I’m missing several other items but these are the ones that come to mind.)

1) Either the blade would need to be shortened or the handle would need to be lengthened in order for the lanyard hole to still be functional. Otherwise the blade would slice right through it.

2) The handle height would place some limits on the rocking cuts that could be made unless it was modified to be smaller then the blade at what would be the “bolster” area on other knives.

3) The rear bushing would need to move and be reduced in size in order to clear the blade.

Many of these problems look like they could be overcome by slightly extending the length and changing the geometry of the handle slabs to more of a coffin shape.

Now “twallis” stated “A Sebenza with the blade you suggest wouldn't be a Sebenza.” and I tend to agree. Not due to the changes in the blade but due to the fact that this would require much modification to be truly usable. I just think that CRK would need a new name for this knife and I like the sound of “GarBenza”. I would buy a few.

None of those changes would need to be made.
Of course CRK could not use this exact blade design anyways.
A new but similar design would have to be made.
But it could be done without changing the handle at all.

Just watch this.

Armsraised, Excelent work. I see it all much clearer now. I just couldn't picture it correctly.

I'm ready to buy 2 or 3. Now we just need to see if we can we get CRK to agree to something like this. What about a pre-sold “GarBenza” BladeForums knife run?

G2, You had better have lots of leather on hand.

You guys see, this is why when I grow up I want to be just like Michael...;)

Outstanding! and as you found out, the angle of the edge it up so it does miss the inside sections, which is the beauty of that blade, it has an angle of attack of the edge that really puts it into cutting action very easily.

Thanks Michael!

I love it. I can't see CRK replacing the current blade style, but maybe a special run of the modified Wharncliffe could be done?

I voted for the "wharncliffish" type blade, but would like to see it as an option. Really, I'd like to see a blade with less "belly" toward the point, maybe a little less "wharncliffish" and more "tunafishish" type styling.;)

Since I'm not a gold member I cant vote, but I would definitely buy atleast 2 wharncliff style Sebenzas if they were to be made. PLEASE make this knife.

I voted to stay with the current design, since there was no option to go with both. That said, I'd love to see a wharncliff option.
