Condor Golok

Do their stainless blades keep a good edge as long as Ontarios 1095 or others carbon steel? Are they as easy to sharpen? If they hit rock do they chip or do they dent? Thanks for the info.

I would also like to know if their sheaths hold up and if they are decent protection?
Thanks

Everything else yes. Not sure about the rock, haven't chopped one yet.

I like the look of the handle.

This pic is especially informative. I didn't count on them being so narrow up at the handle end - neat. When I consider that's about 50% heavier than the golok I use, and the weight isn't in that narrow bit, I can imagine that delivering a healthy shock.

Ultimately it is a lot heavier than the one I'm happy carrying so I shall pass. But if I wanted to put more power down that one would be up the top end of my shortlist. Looks great.

cool. I'll weigh this one when I get back. I like light stuff too, and there may be another lighter version later on in the plans. ;)

thanks for your input!

I'm so glad they added a lanyard tube. I would have been sad if I had to pass on that one 'cause it didn't have one! :D I don't use them often but when you want to it's nice to have the option. ;)

Expanding a bit on the weight thing:

If I wanted to stack something against that Condor offering I'd pick one of these -

Dunno which would win that, just that this one seems a worthy adversary on the basis of mass.

That said, I'd probably go a third way and pick something like this -

The reason being I think that would pay dividends on modest size green wood. It's not too dissimilar to what fence makers, coppicers, and thatchers have been using here forever. If I added mass it would be for that kind of work.

Ultimately though, my quest for a good versatile compact beater lures me to this, which is only a we bit heavier than what I'm currently using. Eventually one will come my way but single offerings are a bit thin on the ground at the moment to force appropriate £. I've been looking forward to modding one of those for a while. I think I could coax just the right size/weight/performance from it for my needs.

That said, I look at that Condor and wonder what if I cut the machete like bit that is useless to me off. Now that's starts to look like something that could be very useful to me at the size/weight/performance thing.

Nessmuk Golok :D

I bought the Kukri that is in that picture or one like it at the Blade show. I don't think he had many of them. He didn't have a sheath, but the cold steel kukri sheath fits it perfectly. I also bought a Swampmaster, Puerto Rican, and a Viking machete. They work great. Really awesome.

I have the Viking. Also the Combat and the Bush Knife (my favorite!). All great choppers, and I plan on getting more!

I didn't realize the guy at the blade show was giving me such a great deal until I checked on website prices. I got all four of those machetes for $110.00

SO YOU are the one with the kukri!

Thanks for answering my questions Joe.I am waiting to see the new ones they're bringing out,but I may have to get a few of their stainless models too.

Don't discount Condor's stainless! Everyone keeps on hankering for the carbon steel, yet I've never had a single problem with any of my 420HC pieces! The heat treatment is really something else on these babies...they hold a great edge (especially thanks to the convex) and have a great amount of spring to them! Give them a shot and you'll see what I mean! ;)

Yeah, it is me. When I bought it, I didn't know it was a model not yet on the market yet. If I had known that, I would have asked if he had any more. It is awesome. It has a good forward weight, much more so than the cold steel kukri I have. I have the cheap cold steel kukri so I don't know how it would compare to one of the more expensive models. It would be an interesting test.
