Condor Knives 2014

Actually its good they have names, knives with just numbers for names get repetitive. Especially like the handles on the Crotalus, Moonstalker and Moonshiner.
Also its good to see Condor continuing the trend away from excessive use of choil areas on the blade. I don't mind choils on long choppers but don't care for them much on blades under 10 inches.
Joe other than a shorter length whats the difference between the old Parang Machete and the new Eco parang Machete? Lighter i guess but thinner too?

Which old Parang Machete? They have several, the regular Parang, the Village Parang, and the Bushcraft Parang.

I think he meant the regular Parang? If so, it's still around to the best of my knowledge.

The Eco Parang is flat untapered stock.

I was referring to the Bushcraft parang machete, although my dealer has it listed simply as the Parang machete.
So the Eco has untapered stock, i guess then the Bushcraft has a slight distal taper towards the tip like the Village Parang?

Looks like a great line up to me! Thanks for posting. That camp hatchet and Solobolo are definitely catching my eye.

Village Parang: Thick stock, slight distal taper
Bushcraft Parang: Medium stock, strong distal taper
Eco Parang: Thin stock, no distal taper

Ah, cool thanks! I currently have the Village Parang. I might buy the Eco instead of getting the Bushcraft...or maybe i'll just buy both! :D

I like the Condor Moonstalker / Moonshiner and those tiny Kershaw/Emersons collabs are cool, I might pick one up, I dislike liner/frame locks but those are small and inexpensive enough that it's tempting.

That's it for new-for-2014 models so far.

[Edit: Oops, wrong thread, meant to post in "what knives are you looking forward to in 2014". Whatever]

I hope the Moonshiner keeps the false edge that it had in the SHOT show video, because I'm not seeing a false edge in that product picture... I like the aesthetics.

There are some updates to their older models as well, if you check out the 2014 catalog on their website. It's funny, but the model I think I'm most excited about so far is the 28" splitting axe. Personally I think that's genius. I can tell you from experience that those German-style "winged" splitting axes CAN chop, not just split. They may not be the best for the task, but they're far from the worst. The main limit with them is the width of the wings affects the minimum angle of approach you can use, but as long as you keep that in mind you won't get any glancing blows. Should be a great piece of winter gear, or just camping in general.

Interesting. That axe is really the only piece that I may acquire. The ''shine'' blades caught my attention but once you have more than enough blades in this size range, the novelty\utility kind wears off. That splitting axe is definitely on my radar.

Here's a clip showing it, at the 3:46 mark. :)

Oh gosh that solobolo has my name branded right on it. My hands are burning from yanking my wallet out of my back pocket way too fast. Too bad I have to wait for it to be released

I thought the same. Great size and shape on that one...about 8 minute mark in the video...

Idk about the hollow grind though,i was looking more for a durable chopper to add to my large arsenal of choppers, but the hollow grind might need to be modified

The Solobolo is at the top of my list. Not work about the hollow grind at all. I would like to know how you. are going to modify it?

I like the El Salvador Machete, reminds me of the Eco-survivor except with a wood handle, and leather sheath. Seems like a good package, for somebody tired of cheap, hardware store machetes, without sheaths, and nicer handles. I might get one. The only other Condor machete I own is a Golok, from several years ago, back when you could get them without a sheath. Wouldn't mind branching out a bit, seeing as higher end machetes, are a niche item, and I do like my Golok, that I thinned out a bit.
