I am actually really confused right now, so please help me understand this:

Few days back, I sent a member a trade offer and he's interested in one of my knives. He wants me to ship my knife (knife A) and he will ship later since he claims I have low feedback score. I told him that fine by me as long as he sends out the knife after I give him confirmation & proof of the item sent. He did not want that and said how he doesn't know if I'm gonna send him an empty box and so on. I kinda get the idea and was fine since he was not comfortable with dealing with lower feedback scores so I told the guy good luck on his trade & called it off. A while later he goes on telling me he's willing to reconsider and do the trade (knife A). Long story short, the deal did not happen at the end because we didn't reach an agreement with the shipping timeline.

It stroke me today that guy was interested in another knife (knife B) i offered, so I did a follow up asking if he still wants to trade for that other one and he tells me he still have interest in knife A. However, heres the part that I don't understand: he wants to purchase knife A from me, so we've discussed the price & everything and he goes on telling me he wants me to go ahead send the knife out and once he receives it he will pay me

...I literally starred in my computer for a good 2 minutes & went speechless. I mean I can understand if he didn't want to deal with me due to low feedback score, but is such really necessary?

I would run, not walk, away from any deal with this guy. It does not sound kosher in either case.

I hear you loud and clear. I recently had a deal with a member from another forum and I sent payment via PayPal and then he told me he wouldn't ship the item until the money cleared from his PayPal account to his bank account. I couldn't understand why and wasn't comfortable with the deal at that point so I backed out. Strange.

Yep that guy sounds like bad news to me. The only time I as a seller have done something similar is when people are paying with money orders. I tell the buyer ahead of time that I will not ship out the knife until I get the MO in hand, if they agree then we have a deal.

If your transaction is done via paypal I don't see what the guy's problem is. I would NEVER send someone a knife (or anything for that matter) without getting paid first. As Daniel said, I wouldn't do business with that guy.

Just out of curiosity, what is his feedback score?

lol, I mean I even went ahead to guarantee him my practice of trade of taking pics with custom forms filled so he will feel more confident. I don't see a problem with the deal until the point he told me he won't pay out until NOT the item is shipped but received... My jaw dropped

I never heard a seller selling stuff out and don't get paid until the customer has got received the item, not in evil bay nor forums... this is definitely a first for me.

yes, that I understand and I get. But seller have to hold on & don't get paid....um.... I really don't know how to react

got it! his feedback score: 12. I thought with such score, ppl should've traded with quite a variety of ppl

I'm surprised anybody would do a transaction with him if that's how he usually wants it done.

Not cool, alarm bells should have been ringing- book tail and run.

There should be no confusion; you did right. It should have been a simple and straight forward transaction, when it gets needlessly complicated and starts to undermine accepted norms of commerce- buyer pays, and then seller ships...time to get worried.

Wait, do you live outside of the USA?

If so, the other person may have legitimate concerns if he never traded with you before.

A stranger asking you to ship a knife on credit is incredibly bush league. I don't care if you're shipping across national borders or across town or what anyone's respective feedback ratings are. Keep your knives for now and wish your counterpart good day. There will be plenty of other opportunities in the Exchange without having to deal with this kind of crap.

This shouldnt make a difference. Most sellers willing to ship internationally say once it is shipped it is no longer their responsibility.

you weren't comfortable with his terms and so you didn't make the deal either time?
good call.

In this situation, that's crazy. Obviously with friends or makers I'm friends with, I/they have no problems shipping knives before I send payment. But to do so with a stranger is another story. Tell the guy to go find another knife and another seller.

yes, I'm located up north. but IMO that cannot justify NOT paying until item arrives. Its like saying all int'l buyers have no obligation to pay US sellers until item arrives soundly.

Like I said, i understand & will do everything on my end to list item & honor the deal out of utmost good faith (taking pics in post office before item ships out, etc) and I hope the same, tracking wise I won't be able to guarantee that since buyer doesn't want to take cost & thats fine by me, I do state I cannot be responsible as the item leaves my hand.

no deal 1066vik, I wasn't able to respond to his last email, seriously I was shocked

Agreed

I've had a couple transactions with you so far, and everything was A OK. If I have a "gut" feeling about the deal, I just shut it down politely. Keep it simple, and communicate effectively. Keeps everyone happy.
