Anyone know if Scott Cook is available on any of the forums? Just trying to get in touch re: an order I placed several years ago (he was that far behind). I've e-mailed his business e-mail numerous times over the past year or so and even left messages on his SCK business phone. No responses. The man is obviously very busy...just want to find out where I stand on the orders list. I've moved with the military at least 3 times since I placed the order, so I'd like to get re-connected. Thanks for any assistance.

He is very hard to get a hold of. Just keep emailing him-try changing the subject line. Leave more messages.

Unless you know someone in Idaho who knows him, that is about all that you can do unless you find out that he has a fax.

I had a hard time getting a hold of him, but I finally did and got my Lochsa. It is worth the wait.

send him a letter:

i have heard he is horrible when it comes to communication with customers. i would steer clear for this reason

Thanks for the input. I have several Lochsas and wanted to get in on one more before Mr Cook stops making them. Being the nervous type, I just want to make sure we're still on track and SCK has current contact info what with the order being placed in 2005, several moves since then, etc. The times I've spoken w/Mr Cook he's been very pleasant and professional. I just wish he'd return calls or respond to e-mails (then I'd leave him alone...promise). I've nothing but favorable comments, otherwise.

Again, thanks for taking time to respond.

Regards,

communication is a huge issue. imho a maker that neglects to communicate does not deserve my business nor anyone elses. the lochsa is a good knife but the maker needs to correct this huge flaw in his business.

Haldir00, I had an order in with him a few years ago too. I have emailed him several times and have not received a reply. At this point, I have no idea if I'm still in the queue or not for a Lochsa.

Gee, that sure sound familiar. Like, exactly my situation.

I emailed and called for a couple of years with no response.

The only reason I wanted him to give me an approximate delivery date was so I could budget for it.

I had given up when I received an email from him asking if I still wanted it. Of course it was completed after I had already spent my extra cash for the month. It is an excellent knife and I am glad that I got it, but the quality of the knife does not excuse poor communication.

Scott never replied to any of my many emails or phone calls. I gave up hope he would fullfill my order......then out of the blue he emailed me that I was next on the list...."sorry it took so long, do you still want it?"

WOW...nice surprise, nice knife, great workmanship!!! Just lousy business practices :(

About three years back I placed an order with him for a Lochsa face-to-face at the Chicago show, as I was picking up a pair of Lochsa for a friend, one in S60V and one in S90V.

I gave him a small deposit, $10, which was the change from our transaction, emailed him a couple times and never heard back. Screw it. The $10 is not the issue, but if you're that busy that in a few years I don't hear back, I don't need your knife and I guess you don't need my business.

I placed an order with him a couple of years ago, knowing it was going to be a long wait. Shortly thereafter, I bought a used one and forgot about my order. Someone was selling it for $450 on another board and I jumped on it.
Scott called me yesterday and my knife is ready. I've spoken with him twice and found him to be a nice guy.

So I think I gave Scott my CC# on Wednesday, and when I came in tonight, I got the best Halloween treat ever.

I needed a clarification on a numbered Lochsa and Scott replied within a day or so. Pretty good considering his order book is too full.

I have owned/sold/traded Lochsa's and I can only say it is the nicest folder out there. Once you use one, you won't want to give it up. Got a user on my belt now. I liked it so much that I picked up one of his small Owyhee's too.

If he opens up his Lochsa order book again, I would definitely buy one from him; no matter what others have to say about his lack of communication. I am paying for a deluxe folder not someone to be my friend.

It's got nothing to do with wanting the maker as a friend. It's got everything to do with a maker keeping in contact with customers so that they know what's going on. Communication is key to running a good business.

He's a knife maker, not a telemarketer. When you place your order, you know it's going to be a long time. I'm guessing if he responded to every inquiry about when their knives would be ready, he'd only have time to make half as many knives. Give the guy a break.

Once an order is logged all he has to do is give you a rough idea as to when it might be ready. Can you imagine how many knives would be delayed by constantly answering the phone, responding to emails, and answering questions? He runs a lean business and IMO does not need to keep holding peoples hands that already have an order in place. Once the order is in all you need to do as a buyer is be ready with the funds once you get the call or email.

His knives sell themselves and he doesn't need to promote them one bit. If you don't like this bluntness, perhaps another maker would be better suited to your needs. Yesterday, on another forum, a Lochsa sold in used condition within 4 minutes and there were six people lined up for seconds if the deal fell through.

QED.

Exactly.

Sometimes people think they are dealing with a large operation. Most of these guys (custom makers) do everything including janitorial work after the work day. There are no secretaries, admin asst or VP Sales; just the maker who is buying materials, organizing layout, etc etc. Then they have a life after work too.

Are those business numbers for his shop?

I have a Lochsa I'd like to see about having refurbished. I'd just like to know the cost and timeframe to have it done.

I believe that on is his shop and one is his house, but I do not know which.

I don't see anyone here asking for hand holding. Seems they just want some kind, any kind of response to their communication. Even if it was just "Received your message, will try to get back to you by XYZ." At least then folks wouldn't be left feeling their efforts at contact are meaningless, as if lost in some black hole.
