Please, don't give Walking Man any ideas to experiment with. :D

Well, I did deanimate my facial hair with a Gillette it this morning. :D

I've never handled a ShivaKi knife, but in terms of appearance, as a collector, it's style sort'a fits my theme... except for the humpbacked handle... I like palm swells, and the lower portion of the handle and the rear portions appear to be the shape I like, but the back, or spine, portion towards the guard looks too fat for my tastes... And how do you find it for light chopping? Enough handle, or does the shape keep you in towards the guard?

If you're going to Blade West this year, would you mind bringing it so I can satisfy my curiosity as to whether or not I find that portion of the shape uncomfortable? Then I could find out for myself what all the hubbub is about...

Thank you, in advance, sir!

Joe,

It is an optimized shape for using, you can snug up on the guard or wrist flick cuts with the butt, has to be held to understand. I'll bring it up to Blade West, I have a table there, I hope that I don't regret it(ie. if my sales at Blade West suck as bad as they did at Eugene)!!

Best Regards,

When is Blade West? I went last year, and it was small, but it's close enough to Seattle that it might make sense for me.

Look forward to seeing you again!

Joss... in September as I recall, but don't remember which weekend...

Hi all,

Lots of variety on this one, as expected. What I mean by "feels lighter than it is," is that when I weighed it, and compared the feel to other knives I've handled of similar weight (not that there have been hundreds of them or anything), it felt light, quick, well-balanced, whatever, maybe due to the distal taper. I didn't mean any kind of voodoo stuff.

Exactly so, Ed. If the Shivas of the world vanished overnight, the tapestry of life would would be so much more faded and drab.

Old crazy Jimmy

Mr Jimmy Fikes, you are also such a man ,who should not vanish or fade away. You should once again come out with the knives of yours.Just saw a picture of your knife to Gary Graley.Gary has hand rubbed it to a very high grit and the knife has a very nice hamon to it now.He says it is super sharp,(just like Shiva Ki's knives. There that brings this post in line with the topic of this thread:D .).Has Oley Fermo(maybe wrong spelling)vanished and now will it be Jimmy Fikes?.

Raj,
Hi.Good to see you posting, as well as Jimmy,I agree with you 100% and it seems I'm always meeting Jimmy in a Shiva Ki thread, the last one is when he told me I could call him Jimmy. :D
Gary did a great job etching out the hamon on his Fikes knife.
Keeping the thread on topic, yes, both very sharp.
Edited to add:Jimmy, your sharp wit and humor are very much missed 'round here.

Doug

Hi Doug, thanks. I have handled a Shiva Ki bowie. That edge was among the really sharp ones I have seen on a big knife. You can cut paper in a 90 degree angle and not need to slant the blade to cut paper .Hav'ent seen many big bowies go thru paper that easily. The finish is not the greatest :).But it is a very well constructed knife. So can understand your love for the Shiva Ki knives.

Ive watched Jimmy WAIL through dried Bamboo -0- edge damage, with any knife that goes out the door (and any that stay around for that matter).

I then adopted the same policy.... harder than it sounds, some dont make it.
