Cool Knives in movie Avatar

The science fiction flick Avatar has some really good looking knives, mainly in the hands of the aliens. They look like Tai Goo tribal designs. Have a look at the movie. Anybody know who designed them?

The native knife was a curved design that looked like it was made of a prehistoric obsidian or flint kind of material.
In the final battle the big mech (with the bad colonel inside) was also wielding a fun overly complex fixed blade.

Wasn't it just a sort of bowie design with a sawback and some cutouts near the spine? :P

There are some Kabars on the marines, and the na'vi all actually have -different- knives. Different handle materials, different blade shapes (although they seem to share a sort of backwards curve), and different blade colours.

I work in a movie theater, I've seen it four times :P.

All I could think of is how they resembled giant Sharpfinger-style skinners...Marines had your basic big Ka-Bar, some even had the sawback like the one on the mech. Notice how the webbing vests and weapons mounts were a bit off...The Colonel's flipped pistol on his left hip had me tilting my head and wondering about the prop department. The cross-draw neck knife mounts on the natives was interesting, pretty sure the main female had one behind her back.

I don't know anything about the knife designs or who made them but it was an amazing movie. I wouldn't mind going to see it again, just to catch some of the details I missed the first time around. The 3-D effects and CGI were pretty impressive IMO. I suspect they'll be winning a few Oscars for SPFX innovations, etc.

I'm not sure what they will be winning but I do believe the movie was awesome. I heard some bad press on it. That it was full of liberal propaganda. Anti American, Pro Green, Racist undertones. You know what I think? I think it's a simple and classic movie theme that was done really well. It reminded me of "Dances with Wolves". I"ll see it again soon.

It was such an amazing movie I saw it twice, and the first time was in Imax. :p

Many of the knives the Na'vi (aliens) used seemed to be animal teeth, which given the animals there could be quite formidable.

Seems like Cameron has finally made movie that I can accept as apology for him making the Titanic. Sure its the most successful movie ever... but comming from director of T2 and other excellent Action films...

Now with cool knives in the movie, I want to see it even more.

That's exactly what I said about the movie. "Dances with Wolves" for the new millenium.

Cool knives, awesome special effects, and well done script. Political? Well, sort of. Over-the-top stereotypical characters, Yup. Would I see it again, and recommend it to everyone I meet? Yes. We need a reminder, now and then, of our past, lest we repeat it.

Its....a.....movie! And a CG animated one at that!

There is no reason for anything in it to exist.
