Cornucopia of New Products to Debut @ Shot Show 2013, article

The Harvest series has the Waterfowler which is the same knife as the Ergo Hunter Small Game, and both are said to have a wharncliff blade. The Rosewood Ergo Hunter (Avid model) that I have has more of a Drop point blade. There are others members that have blades similar to mine as well. I wonder if they will be true Wharncliff style blades or the blade styles will differ from batch to batch.

I would guess that blade changed after the first year and what you and I have is what it is...lets call it 2nd gen. Plum got his right after they first came out I think. Frankly I like both and will grab an Avid like Plum's if I can.

Saw an article that listed the closed length for the Spitfire as 4.25" so it should be close to a Vantage. Also had the MSRP listed at $56

WOW!! I'm not into tacticals but I think I need to have one of these.

Last year, I made a plea for Buck to expand and build on it's 110/112 family. One of the things I suggested was a screw together modern with a drop blade with the handle mirroring the profile of the 112. Boy o boy, talk about seeing a dream fulfilled. I would prefer no hole in the blade but still... Talk about a great looking handle. Definitely a strong family resemblance to one of Bucks most recognizable patterns.

Usually tacticals all look the same. Soulless riffs on the Sydercos or Leeks or some such.

But these Spitfires look like knives that only Buck could (or should) make. That scales are such a classic Buck profile.

Bravo to whoever at Buck did the design.

Ya, Tactical... The Spitfire isn't a tactical knife in the least bit. A "Tactical" knife is subdued not bright orange or lime green and they usually have blacked out or non reflective blades, the Spitfire has neither. At best its has a family resemblance to a Vantage, IMO

100% agree!

I don't see any classic Buck lines in the knife at all. In my opinion, if it has a family resemblance, it's to the defunct Whittaker line of outdoor/backpacker style knives with their anodized aluminum handles.

I happen to like those myself, but I see no resemblance in this one and say, a classic like a 112.

Not even close, but I suppose if you squinted hard enough you might see a resemblance in handle shape but that's it's a long stretch to but them in the same "family".

:D Excuse me then. I must have been away when the new 113 was declared to be a "classic".

I think that if you took the "Buck" name off of the new knife in question, it could be any number of other brand of knife. Nothing about it (IMO) screams or really even whispers "Buck".

Sorry, I didn't mean to be argumentative. :o

I like the Spitfire but I feel that minus the Buck markings, it could just as easily be a Kershaw or similar.

Can you think of another maker who produces a frame/handle in the profile of the 112/113?

Not off hand, but I'm not going to argue about it.

My last words on the subject are this. Even with the handle shape slightly resembling the 112 and 113's, take away the Buck markings and I'd bet that not one in 1000 people would say "look, it's a Buck!". Unless of course, they're the type that call any folding knife a buck knife. ;)

If anything it will be knocked off before the year is out. The pivot pin on that one screams Chinese made, IMO. As for coming close to a classic Buck look, I think it's a far cry. I have to agree with Dave. I do see the Whittaker line family association though.

This one probably won't see my pocket, unless of course it's given to me as a gift, and even then the orange and green are a bit hard to work into the wardrobe.

Here is a video from Youtube showing the Spitfires in motion.

I do like the comment about the "fashion" of knives:P

Heck, if all knives looked too much alike, we would be able to make excuses to get all the different colors.
