I've been looking with great intrest at Copper and Clad and Silver Knight and the great and frankly unusual and rare Bucks that has come from there colaberation. I think is great we get the opportunity to weigh in on the design and details of the knives we use, collect and enjoy. This forum is a big part of the voice of Buck collectors and has been for over a dozen years and since 2007 or so I've been a part of it. In all my time here I don't remember seeing any serious discussion of a Buck knife dedicated to Blade forums or any brand for that matter. I have been away from active collecting at times and being absent from the forum too so there is a real chance I've missed discussion on this topic. Would you want to add a Buck knife to your collection celebrating this forum? I would if for no other reason than I spend a lot of time and enjoy the fellowship and knowledge I find here.

I think a forum Buck would be great. How about an Al frame 110, S30V blade, yellow G10 (or orange) (or yellow paperstone).

Maybe light blue on dark blue. Kind of an interesting idea. Right now I'm looking at a 103, 120, or 124. What is the minimum build quota for buck to make a custom run?

How about an aluminum 112. No one has done that yet. Clip-point, no nail-nick, 154CM, with blue Micarta scales.

naw, no one can decide on what they want together. too many different opinions and needs and wants. the drive for s90v over bg42 blows my mind in the skblades pick off. thought bg42 was extinct now and if it could be possible how could folks want s90v over it?? that aside, the first three posts here are so different from one another it says it all, and if i put my take in.... i'd be different than the first three although i don't dislike any of the first three leans and would likely buy any of them. so there ya go maybe it is possible........... it is what it is.......

Yes, the yellow would be nice and unusual. My only dilemma is whether to choose a drop point or clip point blade.

Unfortunately, this is probably the case. Getting this kind of thing going is always a long and thankless job. You will never be able to please everyone. I have never purchased a forum knife of any kind simply because the final product is never what I wanted. Stranger things have happened though.

I would reply that the Traditional forum has a long history with this subject. I guess a lot of experience could be gathered by talking to someone there. I do know this is not a moderators job. Some thick skinned individual with connections to a factory or a custom maker appears to be the main functionary of this process.
And, it seems to take a long time to get the knives made. If this idea floats to the top the individual taking charge will need to talk to me as the first step using Private Mail. I will be glad to help that person connect with the Traditional forum for their lessons learned. 300

I would love to see us get a forum knife. How about a 110 or 112, Al frame, ELMAX blade, Autumn yellow polished G10?

What do you like about Bg42 that you think makes it preferable than s90v? I have no experience with Bg42 so would like to know it's pros/cons.

A buck 300 with wood scales and CPM 154 would be a nice addition I think.

I love the spirit behind this. I know we'd be open to taking on the task. I also know it would be like herding cats! Any suggestions for a collaborative and creative effort that could make most everyone excited?

Ultimately, a consensus on "what we like" is too broad. My vote would be for "what hasn't been done (too often)" might draw the most interest...then limit the production to <100. 1st option, a "special" tang stamp, maybe right side inverted with date stamp.

SK Blades seems to already be real good at this - maybe they could add a Blade Forum/Buck Knife etch to the blade of the Buck 110 that comes in second in their current poll (with Buck and Blade Forum's permission) then we could own the top two vote getters (like a drop point and a clip point) which would be a limited edition forum knife. IF SK is so inclined they already know how to get the job done. If SK can't do it for business reasons maybe C&C would be interested. My 2¢ for what it's worth. OH

I really like the idea, too. As much as I like the 110 and 112, I think the forum knife should be more EDC-able. Something around $100 or less. Maybe something along the lines of a Vantage, Marksman or Spitfire.

I'm not as warm on a forum knife, personally. There are so many folks with different tastes (as mentioned already). For it to be a success, it's going to have to be pretty pedestrian and relatively inexpensive to get more folks interested.
We have to ask ourselves if we:
a) want a knife where the appeal is simply inclusion as members of this forum, or
b) want a knife that is super special, that is made to our "majority" interests.

If the answer is "a", then it might be a slip-joint or 500 series folder for the simple fact that they might be more affordable and thus, more appealing to the community.
If the answer is "b", then I give you the 110 that SK is currently working out in that thread. Perhaps adding a Buck @ BladeForums.com moniker to that knife is the best course.
If the answer is "b", and something in addition to, or in lieu of SKs project and you really want the community involved, you'll have to narrow down the offering via polls.
Poll #1 might be price point. <$50 with slip joints, less expensive lock-backs, or plastic frames, $50-$100 with lock backs or lower end fixed blade, >$100 with higher end materials in lock-backs, or a larger variety of fixed blades.
Poll #2 would narrow down the model options from poll #1.
Poll #3 would narrow down materials that would keep the knife inside the price range.
Then when it's all said and done put it out to bid through Buck, SK, C&C, etc...

My guess is that we end up in the <$50 category to keep it appealing to the majority of members so as to move more of them.

For me, a good forum knife that is both affordable and attractive, that would have a broader appeal might be to bring back a 700 series slip-joint. It's a fine knife that hasn't been made in years. Throw some updated materials at it and it should still be affordable and broadly appealing.

That's my $0.02. Don't spend it all in one place!

I think this line of thinking is the most reasonable and has a great chance for success. I think you're polling idea with 3 separate phases would be the way to go. Our current 110 creation contest is not going to be in the less expensive camp, as I'm sure you know.

We'd love to spear head this project if you all want it. We could begin the rounds soon provided we have the right selection of knife models to throw in poll #1.

Thoughts?

I would be interested in the Vantage, Duke, 112, Spitfire, or 110, as long as the specs met my preferences.

Well, a 501 with S30V or Elmax blade and yellow G10 scales would be cool.
