Could you go one year with just one folding knife?

I been thinking about it lately, could I go a whole year with just one folding knife.

Here's the scenario: you can only afford one decent folder (what you price range you consider "decent" is up to you) and that is the only knife you can use all year long. No new purchases and no back-ups. Barring the unthinkable happening (survival, emergency, misuse leading to the blade breaking, etc) could you commit to one knife? If so, which one.

I think that I would have very hard time not buying at least one knife. If I had to pick one knife to carry all year, it would be my Manix 2 because it is the most well-rounded thing I have. Perhaps I will try this next year.

I would love to read your thoughts on this.

I never leave the house with less than 2 knives on me so no, I couldn't.
If I absolutely had to it would be a multi of some flavor. I'm loving my Vic Spirit right now but if it was my primary knife the lack of edge retention on Inox might be an issue so I'd prob go with a 154CM Leatherman.

Easily. Had one knife for years and never considered anything else (a SAK). Having a wide selection of knives available to me really started with joining BF.

Since you said "one folding knife" I would pick the good ol' trustly spyderco Native, and any fixed blade as backup, which would probably be an Izula or razel. But, my new Spyderco Navaja is pretty up to it as well... Damn... Not so easy after all.

I think I could. It would certainly make sense. I spend way too much time on here not to mention money.

When I wasn't active here from about October '11 to April' 12 I only carried my RAT 1. I might choose this knife simply because I never hesitate to use it for anything given its extremely affordable price.

I've done it in the past, before I got into knives as a hobby I had a SAK (black SwissChamp) that I used for almost everything. When I needed more, I grabbed one of my fixed blade knives (my dad had a custom made for me when I was 12 that's about perfect for my needs).

Nowadays I switch my carry knives around all the time. If I had to have just one folding knife for everything, I'd go with a SAK, scout pattern slipjoint or multitool. The extra features are always good to have. If I can have a SAK/multitool and just one folding knife, I'd go with my old Spyderco Mini Manix.

Hey man I'll hop aboard the Manix 2 wagon. Great lock design, the steel (154CM) is easy enough to sharpen, and with the fancy upgraaayyydes I did this one should last for awhile.

If I was going to commit to just one folder for a year, it would have to be either a Benchmade Griptilian (full size) a Spyderco Endura or Delica, or a SOG Aegis (full size or mini).

I have been carrying only one EDC exclusively for a month at a time for 2 months now (first a Greyman Dua, then a Sage). While I miss the variety a little I have enjoyed getting to know a couple of mine much better over an extended period. A whole year would be a challenge though, would be too tempting to carry something different for me.

Sure. Either my Sebbie 21, D2 Grippie, Mini-Rukus, 710 in D2, or BassPro 110 in CPM154 would work for me.

Blasphemy!!! :D

Maybe if I found the perfect one, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Nah, you folks are missing the concept of OP's vision:

You only get to pick ONE. Even if you have 350 other folders in your marble lined walk in closet, the one you choose for the year is it and it only. None of that wishy-washy "well either this one or that one". PICK ONE AND GET READY FOR THE APOCALYPSE / OPENING YOUR MAIL / DOING NORMAL TASKS.

I say Manix 2, that's the one that speaks to me most from my collection.

Easy, 950 Rift. Don't need any back up folders to it since I've got my fixed blades.

Yeah, it'd be super easy. I'd just put bladeforums on the blocked list for my internet and I'd have no problems :p

I *could* just carry one, but that is the same as I *can* make due with just one pair of pants and one shirt.

Variety is the spice of life! Maybe today I want to carry my ZT 550, but tomorrow I want something small and light, like my Spyderco Cat. There is no perfect knife, unfortunately, there is only perfect for that style.

I couldn't do it voluntarily so lets just say something bad happens, an accident or environmental disaster or something that prevented me from returning home (and something else also happened cause I carry a minimum of 3 knives on me at all times). Out of all the blades I have access to I'd say I'd probably do the best/be the most content with a Sage 1, again I can't voluntarily choose just one (I can't make it one day with just one knife!) but I'd be least upset with the sage.
