Could you go one year with just one folding knife?

I could, but I would not do it because I do not have to. I would most likely go with the ZT 0561 or more likely a Strider SMF, but I own the ZT now and do not have much experience with the Strider yet.

Wouldn't be to bad I went most of this year only carrying my GEC 85, (if you don't include the little fixed or the Sage II the accompany it most of the time). However I have recently picked back up my Case SBJ..... I could probably do it, maybe, if I really had to.....

For years it was a Craftsman model Vic SAK. The last few years has found a BM 755 MPR as my most common EDC. Yeah, I could do it! Glad it isn't a requirement, however.

I enjoy switching knives frequently, but if I had to choose one it would be my 581. I freaking love this knife and have carried it for probably 3 months straight before rotating. That's the longest I've carried one blade.

Easily. I went pretty much my entire life with no EDC so committing to one "decent" folder would be a piece of cake. I still have a lot to learn so in 6 months I'm sure my choice would change but were I to pick one today, it would be my old faithful. My 82 Schrade LB7. Heavy and sturdy. No blade play after all these years.... Of course I lost it for about 15 years so it hasn't seen the mileage it's birth-date suggests, but I use it often now and keep it in good working order. It "feels" more solid than my Kershaw and Ontario folders (which are admittedly low end - Rat1 and Cryo).

if this means fixed blades are allowed, then i could probably last just using my chaparral and then using one of my phil wilsons for heavy work

I carried a no.10 opinel ONLY for a year before i joined bladeforums. Before that, i always carry a SAK (forgot the model name). Now i cant. I carries more than a blade everyday.

I am trying to do something similar already. Not talking about a catastrophe, just EDC, I could do it. I would have to decide between the only two I have left...

If I really thought about it, I think I could get by with either one of these as a daily user for a year. However, I may lean towards the Sebenza for dressy or "church" days and the XM for outdoor days. If someone held a gun to my head and told me I had to pick one for ALL occasions, I would stab them in the eye ball and tell them YOU CAN'T MAKE ME:) HAHA. Really though, I think the Sebenza 25 could handle everything for all occasions. I just like the XM more:)

Yes. I don't even consider that a challenge. I have with stood things that required greater discipline than having to go one year with just one folding knife successfully in the past. And I really like my knives.

Variety is the spice of life, so why limit yourself I say.
I doubt I could do just one all year unless I was forced to get rid of every other knife and stay off this forum.
That being said I have many that would do just fine for a whole year or more...

BM 940
LR CRK Sebena
BM Mini Ritter Grip
Spyderco Pacific Salt
Spyderco Techno
All great EDCs I could live with.

wouldnt wanna choose but would prob go w my dpx heft2. not too big or small, great blade design, great steel, and has been very solid. has become one of my favs for sure

Been carrying my xm18 for close to 6 months now. That's a record for me considering I use to buy a new knife every two weeks and would rotate.

I carried nothing but a Mini-Griptilian for over 6 years. Before that I carried a Buck Crosslock for who knows how long (probably longer). I did have it replaced when it exploded, but I carried the replacement as well until it folded up on me one day while using it.

no. it's not a "need" that drives me to acquire knives for use, but a "want". some knives out there, production or custom, just plain invoke desire, and some even more so after some personal customization.

Yes, and carry whatever makes you happy. I have seen, and still do now and then, old farmers pulling out ancient small slip joint knives. Which seem to meet their needs for decades.
