Could you go one year with just one folding knife?

One folder to do everything?! Idk.... maybe my mini roadhouse which is my favorite at the moment.

i "could"

but i wouldnt want to. it would take me weeks to pic what i wanted.... on the spit i would say smf cc 3/4 grind. but after thinking about it more im sure i could change my mind 40000 times

im getting anxiety just thinking about picking one... its like haveing your 3 kids sit you down and say you can only keep one. GO dad pick just one of us!

I went a few years with just a Kershaw Scallion and then a couple more with just a Spyderco Endura Wave. Having options is much more fun though.

Sounds like a 3 sided tug-of-war is in order :)

I wouldn't want to choose between any of my blades either, but in the spirit of the nature of this thread, the theoretical scenario dictated that you only got one folding knife for a one year time span.

Think of it this way: Mr. Smith (think Matrix) shows up where you store your knives and lays this info down on you. He gives you 1 minute to decide which knife is going to be your best folding friend for the rest of the year. He is going to take the rest into safe keeping for you.

What would you choose, Mr. Anderson? (or Mrs. ;) )

I went most of my life without carrying a knife, so I am sure I could go a year with just one. Really doesn't matter exactly which one, I have many that would do just fine. For the sake of the question, a Case Medium Stockman in stainless steel.

Easily. I went decades without one. Not that I never had em, I easily jump to new hobbies.

I would just pick up a small bocote or honduran inlaid sebenza. It would easily serve me for a year.

Of course, I love collecting and buying new knives.

But my EDC has been stable: @ work in scrubs its been the BM Mel Pardue 3550.

If in civilian clothes my sheathed BM Presidio 520 has served me well.

If I must choose ONE(1) it would be the Presidio.

Vic Spartan.
Ritter Mini-RSK.
Spyderco Salt I serrated.
Opinel.

Only one? I'll go with the Spartan.

Unless the year in question will involve a lot of salt water. Then it's gotta be the Salt I.

Can't see a compelling reason to go with anything fancier.

As long as it's a Spyderco MIlitary, ABSOLUTELY. No Problemo. The only problem is, which of my Militarys?

I went through college with just one balisong. When I started working, I bought one of the "quality" ones from local makers(lasted around 4 years). When I lost that one, I bought a crappy chinese one that I carried for 10 years. I still have it now. So yes, I could make it but why would I want to when I have a few I can choose from. :)

All around folder I like my endura with combo edge. A little tactical, a little utility. Light weight, strong steel liners. It's a good size for handling almost anything and with the partialy serrated edge it's even more versatile. I could definitely get by for a year on just the endura. I think it's one of the best values and all arounders in the knife world.

Yes, and have. Like some of us here. There have been some tough financial times. And I only had one knife. My spyderco stainless Poliwog. That little bugger had a tough couple of years before relief arrived.

When carrying one knife for years at a time, is it still called one knife, when trappers are 2 in 1, stockmans are 3 in 1 and a congress can be 4 in 1. :D

I already do. The only folder I've carried for years is my beloved SS Dragonfly. When (which is almost always) I carry a second knife it's a fixed knife, usually around the neck.

I have carried my Spyderco Military (partial serrations) for over ten years now... 99% exclusively... (except for the SAK on my keyring) - It has served me well through all the cardboard jungles, the over-sealed packages, the zip-ties, and all the other nasty tricks that life throws at a pharmacist... (and in my imagination, it is one hell of a self-defense blade)
