Went for years back in the '70s with a Schrade Old Timer, had a 3.5" or so blade. Loved that knife, lost it.
Bought a Benchmade Nitrous Stryker Blitz, black serrated blade, about 4-5 years ago and carried only it until two years ago.
Then, a friend introduced me to Emerson knives by accidentally cutting me (it was my fault) while seeing who could open their knife faster, my with my Blitz and he his CQC7. He creamed me, and I promptly bought a satin serrated CQC 8.
He was content with his trusty 7; I went on and am up to 30 or so now, 3 Sebbies, etc.
I still carry the Blitz daily as a backup, and I love them all but if I HAD to choose it would be the CQC 8.
I've belt-sanded the hump off to make it look like a "Super" Journeyman and had the blade sharpened on the back side so it is like a regular knife now, not chisel-ground. I know it would handle cutting just about anything, the wave gives me a quick SD option if ever (very unlikely) in that situation so yes, it would be that one knife. I always feel guilty when I leave home without it even now.
But I sure would miss my other knives, they are fascinating pieces of equipment and art combined. The 8 is, too.
