Could you walk out the door with what is in your pockets?

Not one to let something die before its time: I have enjoyed reading this discussion, appreciate the thread being posted, and don't understand the point in jacking up the originator. Having said that,
I think I could get home from work with nothing specialized. I drive to work as do all my co-workers. If I had to walk home (8 1/2 miles), I could and would need nothing special to do that. Comfy shoes, hat (I'm bald), and a coat if it was cold. I cannot carry a firearm while at work but do carry a nice sized folder clipped into my pocket just incase I run into unavoidable people or dog trouble. I always have a fair amount of cash and cc's on me.
While I love reading these type threads, I must say that I have lived on this earth for nearly 50 years and never had to evacuate my home or walk home from anywhere due to a major catastrophe. Just lucky? possible! Part of the country that I live in? I know that there are extreme situations that occasionally pop up but I feel that most people will live a lifetime and not have to deal with even one incident of that magnitude. It does indeed happen but so do lightning strikes and lottery wins (been lucky on one and unlucky on another there too). That does not mean that you are weird if you disagree and think that you might get into one of those situations where you work or spend a considerable amount of time. Different scenarios and settings require different responses. The world is getting more dangerous every day but more likely in my opinion is the power outage, ice storm, or something that keeps you either from going home, or keeps you at home. With that in mind, just incase, and because I do believe in being prepared, I do have extra water, food, generator and fuel, oil lamps, candles, protection, etc: in my home. I have a propane log set in my fireplace that can heat my home. I have basic survival items (tarp, water, wool blanket, tools, hatchet, fire starters, rope, etc) stashed in my truck toolbox incase I did need to do some "traveling" and (while highly unlikely) got into a survival type situation. I have a BOB packed and waiting at home (again "possible" but highly unlikely that I need to grab it and leave my home yet fun to experiment with). I feel it would most likely be a case of being comfortable or uncomfortable and not about truly surviving or not in all but the truly extreme scenarios. If I venture into the wilderness nowadays, I have spent enough hours fascinated with the survival forums, shows, books, etc: to make sure I did not go unprepared (even if I thought it was just for a day hike).

Bottom line, I don't worry too much about being caught out somewhere in the city and needing to survive out of my pockets until I get home. I don't have a fanny pack or backpack that I carry everywhere and don't know anyone who does. If I lived in several other places that I can think of, I would probably have a totally different answer. If you feel that you might need or want extra preparedness items, keep em handy. Thats what makes this a great place to visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
