Counterfeit, anyone?

I should correct myself, it should have an “R” stamped after the cold steel stamp, which it has. I’ve recently learned that some counterfeits have this stamp as well, so buyer beware. Yours looks like a real aus-8 model. Not sure of the time period, early 2000’s maybe.

I'm trying to narrow down what the thumb studs look like on a real Cold Steel AD-15. Can anyone help? My studs are pictured and I believe mine is real but I would really like to know for sure.

I wanted to know if there any known clones of the Luzon. I’m guessing not since that one is already made in China. I’ve been looking on eBay and am trying to be cautious of all the listings. Is it mostly the US, Taiwan and Japan knives that get cloned?

I’ve not seen one yet.

Just as a public service announcement: in the past couple months I’ve seen a LOT more Recon 1 CTS-XHP clip point fakes on eBay. I’m sure they are making their way into other supply chains.

They appear to be nearly identical to real ones, and are usually pictured with real looking boxes. I’ve been seeing them sell for over $150, and the end user probably has no idea that they bought a $20 Chinese made knock-off.

They can be identified by carefully comparing the sharpening job (the fakes look a bit rough, and seem to affect the coating just above the grind, almost like they were slack belt sharpened). Also the finish itself looks different (like flat black paint), and there is usually a dark discoloration around the thumb stud.

A lot of CS Fakes on there, at least many are listed as coming from China. Pretty damn crazy this is happening, but it is what it is nowadays. Glad I got most of mine before so many fakes have come out, but there are a couple I am still looking out for.

Hey meatbags, anybody recently buy a new Spartan? Mine came with all black pocket clips w no logo . I’ve tried emailing cold steel no answer yet

I received my 3rd Spartan last week, the blade looks legit and the newer writing on the blade matches cold steels website the handles have the correct number of scallops, blade is center no play, but the grivory handles feel different then my others anybody else notice a slightly difference in texture on newer models?

edit: I want to add to this topic, I just saw the Spartan is in stock on midway for $60 however the pictures now look like a clone black clip w/o logo, the printing on the blade looks like replicas I’ve seen, doesn’t even say what steel the blade is made with. I’ve bought from midway in the past and check on them all the time, the pictures and price were very recently adjusted in the last few days

Thanks guys I know the specs, if you see the blade on midways site which is a newer picture and the price was dropped like $20 and if you see the blade in the pictures it doesn’t say what steel it is, and the printing doesn’t match what’s on cold steels website. I’ve not seen a real cold steel folder in a long time that doesn’t have the steel material on the blade. Also the clips are solid black with no logo all of a sudden. And the handles feel different.

what I’m trying to figure out is if cold steel made some recent changes to the Spartan since cold steel was bought out or if there just shipping a cheaper product and qc really has left the chat

Thanks for the assistance

Are there no Spartan fans that keep up with the model changes? It’s hard to get that kinda stuff out of cs

I hope I got lucky, but need You guys to confirm. One of the online shops recently put on their Cold Steel folding knives availability list AK-47's with AUS8A. I have asked them through email where do they got those (and ultralock version also) and they got back to me saying that they found some boxes while doing stocktaking.

Below I took some pics of my copy. I don't see anything wrong with it, just never got any CS with the old box. Wondering if it's not counterfeit (store sent me an invoice for this so I'm almost sure it's original).

Anyone? :)

Until the experts chimes in......I would say legit. More closeups, especially of the handles would be helpful if possible.

No expert but again looks legit to me, somebody will come on soon I'm sure, great pictures too.
