[Counterfeit] Fallkniven F1, rusted (pics) quickly

Yes, everyone I agree with you 100%. Thank you so much. My blood is boiling. I should have been thinking more during this purchase. There are many reasons why folks use Ebay especially in high sales tax states.

Can anyone recommend a reputable seller and expected price to pay?

Thanks

Fair enough, but I'll wager that in hindsight right now, you'd rather be out another $10 worth of sales tax and have a REAL, potentially non-corroded Fallkniven F1, amiright?!?!

Yeah, it simply does not look right. I was first surprised not to see any sign of lamination, and then I noticed the grind and the finish on the blade... No way!

Lesson learned. I called the seller's number however they're not picking up. I'm certain of who they are and their address, however unless I want to take a trip to Utah for a small claims court date, there is little recourse here. Trust the seller and check authenticity early upon receipt. I should have left it in water overnight the first day I received it.

Thanks again folks

Sadly counterfeiting higher end knives can be lucrative. It is possible that Mr. Hughes, if he is not a knife seller primarily, or a hobbyist, may not have even known he had a fake (although given that the actual knife you received has a picture beside a stock Fallkniven photo... who knows).

If you look through the seller's feedback on ebay there are two negative posts relating to selling counterfeits.

Because they are more than twelve months old they don't impact the current 100 % positive feedback rating.

Don't buy knives off eBay period.
If a knife is available on BHQ of KC or GPKnives or whatever, just buy it from there.

I just don't think the potential savings is worth the risk of getting fake merchandise.

Hi Folks,

I purchased the F1 based on the many positive reviews. It's a great knife and I was able to take it with me to Costa Rica for 6 days brand new. We were down in the Osa Peninsula near Panama and the humidity is very very high. The Jungle surrounded much of the area. The knife was taken on a hike into Corcovado National Park and then up the Carate River for many miles. I used it only a few times and it remained mostly sheathed. We ran out of sunblock and I cut down palm leaves to make my girlfriend shoulder shades. Fairly easy task. I cut duct tape. I also batoned a piece of drift wood on the beach that was fairly dry. Stain-less literally means "stain less" which allows for the possibility of stain. Even so, after 6 days I was surprised to see that the finish of the knife rusted in the following condition. Your experiences?

Thanks

*UPDATE: This appears to be a fake / counterfeit Fallkniven F1. As over 30 days have gone since the purchase, I have little recourse here through Ebay or Paypal. Appreciate everyone's help on this.

I am not an expert. But I do own a Fallkniven aswell. What strikes me from your pictures is that your knife does not have a convex edge as the F1 should. Furthermore the F1 is a laminated blade. You should be able to see the transition from the stainless laminate to the VG10 core. But this is not visible in any of the pictures you posted. To top it all off the rust is very uniform on the edge and blade itself. If it were laminated I would expect the VG10 and the stainless steel wrapper to rust differently.

Just for sanity: where did you buy the knife and how much did you pay? Can you post pictures of the butt of the knife and the sheath?

Thanks - T

EDIT: Ignore my post. I jumped the gun. My condolences on the fake. This is why I prefer to pay a higher price to an honest business man.

Thanks folks. I just emailed Fallkniven with the photos asking about it's authenticity. I originally emailed them earlier without photos and claimed they are not 100% rust free. That's understood, however my Fallkniven F1 looks like it's been dunked into salt water for over a day.

Welcome to the jungle! Everything rusts. Just adds character ;)

Curious if you had a blast with it before finding out?

If you bought it on Ebay, I'm betting you paid with paypal. I don't know for sure, but you may be able to file a complaint there.

Tis the way of Ebay. There are so many fakes of many things on ebay now that I am hesitant to buy anything. I previously was a very regular ebay buyer. Have not purchased anything from there in a couple years.

I also don't worry about the sales tax things on online purchases. Even Amazon started collecting sales tax in my state.

I have not looked closely at the knife pictures, but I am trusting what others that are more knowledgeable than I am on such things. My F1 has the white Fallkniven handle on it (vs rubber or a Bark River custom handle). At the time I purchased it, it was one of my more expensive knives.

A very bad quality and obvious chinese fake. That one sucks even for a chinese copy. I have been bidding f1's on a finnish site similar to eBay and the last two Fällkniven F1 knives I have seen there have both been obvious Chinese copies. They were recently available from AliExpress for about 15 usd with fällknives logos, boxes and everything. Now it seems they have cleaned their act a bit and they are being sold as Swedish F1 type knives.

Some easy tells generally to spot these shitty Chinese F1 fakes.

1. v-edge instead of convex
2. Wrong colour and position of the Fällkniven logo
3. Poorly finished choil and ricasso
4. Any rust in the blade
5. Generally poor finnish of the blade

Fällkniven F1 is not a blade I would buy from net from unreliable reseller. They are one of the most copied knives in the industry.

I also believe that the knife in question is a fake!

I actually own both an original F1 (early version with 3G steel) and a fake.

The real deal on top and the Chinese fake at the bottom

This is the way the grind is supposed to look like

I haven't bought any knives in awhile in general but I do still consistently buy from eBay as often as BladeHQ etc. That said, I don't buy any knives "worth" counterfeiting, if you know what I mean, and I buy new with original packaging photos that I can check beforehand.

I do buy knives on ebay but only out of production vintage models that I have
studied the daylights out of for purely collection purposes. I refuse to buy ANY knife currently in production off of ebay. Way too many counterfeits.
Where else can you buy a Rockstead for $17.50??? LOL

Just for anybody browsing this thread in the future, Fallkniven has a guide for spotting fakes:

http://www.fallkniven.com/en/counterfeit

Fallkniven customer service is once again lacking.

First there is no pictures of the fakes for comparison. Second, per their website there are only three places in the US listed as to "where to buy." I believe they are distributors and do not sell to the public. Benchmade, Spyderco, CRK, all list retailers on their sites so you know where to buy with confidence...not Fallkniven.
