Country of Origin; does it matter to you?

Nope. I will be happy to buy any brand from anywhere.

I compare products on their quality (using this term vaguely as I am obviously referencing many factors) and price. I a U.S. company is competitive, I will buy from them as likely as any other.

I prefer American made but if the knife is well made with good steel, I have no issues with it.

I've sold and traded some really well made quality knives simply because they were not made in the U.S.A.. Spydercos, Lion Steel, Kershaw, and others. It may sound crazy but I just don't have the same pride of ownership in foreign made products. I only have one German made, Eye brand stag hunter left as far as non American knives and it will only be a matter of time before it goes to the wayside too. U.S.A. for me!

It matters to me. I do whatever I can to support American manufacturing, and I won't buy Chinese goods if I can avoid it.

I don't fault others for a different approach though, just my choice.

Same for me. I will buy USA made whenever there is a choice. Unfortunately, some things are only made offshore. I predominantly own knives made in the US, anything but Chinese manufactured knives for me.

I try to buy American whenever possible even if it cost a little more. I do own some German Bokers, SAKs, Spydercos, Al Mars (Japan). So I guess the answer is...no. Also AG Russel and Kizer have some really high quality knives.

I try to buy USA when I can too. The only time I really have a problem with other countries is judged on how it manufactured. I don't mind if it's from Taiwan, but if the workers are being mistreated, unfair wages, and forced to produce it, then that's when I have a problem with it. Also if it's a country that I don't agree with (wouldn't buy a North Korean knife).

I generally don't care as long as the quality of materials used and craftsmanship involved is there and guaranteed. I will buy handmade/custom knives from any country as I am buying from an individual craftsman. When it comes to factory made knives I am only really happy buying Eurpean and US made knives with a thin sprinkling of exceptions.

I have lived in Taiwan running a couple of businesses for about 8 years now and frankly I will never own any knives made here or in China. There are a number of reasons for that some are political some personal, but it is my choice and I am more than content I am making the right choice. :)

I will buy from wherever, I don't buy the country I buy the knife. I have a collection of mostly Enlans and SanRenMus, a few Ganzos as well I have no problem buying from China and I think the value for money from Chinese manufacturers is outstanding.
I also have knives made in Taiwan, Sweden, U.K. France, and Germany. I buy more because of the type of knife rather than the country that it's from but I more often than not buy Chinese.
I think that if you refuse a knife because of the country of manufacture you are limiting your choice.
Each to his own though, everyone has their own opinion.

Prefer to buy USA, but will buy what I feel are quality knives from other countries.

Tom

Not a factor for me, so long as I am getting the product I want.

I like my knives and cast iron pan made in the US since everything else I have or wear is made in China, Thailand, or Bangledesh.

Haze,
I can understand the reasons why not from the mainland, but if you don't mind, why are you steering clear of Taiwan being our capitist and military partner to some degree? Are the lines getting too blurred as to what is made where?

I have lived here long enough to have seen the underbelly of Taiwan and how people do things here. I don't like what I have seen and experienced and I also have issues with what I personally have to deal with as a foreigner here. You may also want to have a look at why the Taiwanese have been filling the streets of Taipei in protest over the last few months.....One of course has to be carefull not to just tar a whole nation with the same brush, but there is also no escaping the "norms".

Yes it matters to me. Absolutely. I know there are good products made overseas but in my lifetime I've given enough money to people somewhere else, no more. If I have a choice I buy American.

I won't buy Chinese anything when presented with an option.

In the case of chopsticks -I mean knives- we fortunately still get to decide. :D
