CPK Pet Thread

I've had a beautiful hawk sitting on a branch outside my window for the past 45 minutes or so. Word must've gotten out that I have a soft spot for critters.

The start of February each year brings these solo yearling Cooper Hawks to my yard multiple times each day. They (really all Hawks) sure are a special bird for me to be able to just watch them doing their thing. The Red Tailed Hawks are already paired up now and are always seen together.

My small neighborhood has a flock of about 20 pigeons or so that rotate houses to sit on. I noticed a massive hawk picking them off for a couple of summers and it was awesome to watch it work, flushing the flock around trees that the hawk would just bust through the center of and catch them on the other side. Watching them crash through trees to catch squirrels is quite a sight also! They use that body weight to the advantage of just breaking any branch in the way lol.

Love Owls, too. We have Great Greys in CA and WY. Mostly you hear them, sometimes you see them, here at my morning coffee on our flag pole in CA.

My photography skills stink badly, but I was able to catch this red shouldered hawk going by early last year. My neighborhood has tons of them around. It’s almost time for the swallow tailed kites to come back for mating season.
