CPK Pet Thread

I'm sorry for the news(i hope there's still a chance it may be okay) Blues Blues dogs are family

I had to put the best dog I ever had down at the beginning of covid lock down....

I rarely ever cry and held it together till I got home.. I went into our bedroom and lost it

Just like we want to give them the best life we can, we have to be loyal to them and make sure they do not suffer when their time has come

I really feel for you Elliott, I'm sorry

I know exactly what you mean, Elliot. I went through exactly that a 5 weeks ago with our old guy, Hank. Absolutely tore me up, and I still find myself thinking about him daily. But after everything we'd been through together, I owed it to him to be by his side.

No matter how long a dog lives, it's never as long as they should.

Smoke and prayers for Skyler, and let's hope the tests come back with encouraging news. 👊

I'm very sorry :(

Thanks for all the good thoughts.

Unfortunately, things are not looking good. There's a chance the mass is not malignant, (and we'll have to wait a week or two for the slides to come back), but the vet isn't sanguine about the prospects.

So, it's time to prepare for the inevitable over the foreseeable future. I will not let my girl suffer. That's our job.

I'm praying that the biopsy comes back okay.

In our case, our daughter's 7 year old dog had a 2cm cyst removed from under the skin of her shoulder 3 weeks ago. It looked totally encapsulated and removed, and so the vet thought it was all fine or that they got it all, and the vet didn't push for the $200 lab test to see what kind of growth they'd removed. My daughter insisted on the biopsy, and it came back as a Soft Tissue Sarcoma while she was away on her honeymoon with her new husband. We had the dog for 2 weeks while she healed up from the surgery.

Because it was totally encapsulated, the tumor cells ran all the way to the edge of the tissue that they had removed, so there is no proof of clean margins. That leaves us with the fear that some was left behind, but the veterinarian feels like there was nothing else to remove, unless they had scraped off what looked like normal tissue that was surrounding the tumor. So, her pup will need X-rays and/or MRI, and close watching for future lumps and tumors.

That's why I mentioned I the other thread to make sure to get a biopsy microscopic exam of the tissue.

Thanks yoko yoko and everyone.

There will be no heroic measures here if it is malignant. It's a large mass and couldn't be removed without taking part of her bone structure along with it from the way it was explained...based upon the x-rays and the hardness of the fibrous mass. In any case, I treat my dogs with the same philosophy I have for myself and that is quality of life first, longevity second. I'm not a live at any cost sort.

If Skyler has a malignancy as believed, we will spend as much time with her until it becomes apparent that she can no longer be the dog she has been...and we will say goodbye to her with as much dignity as she deserves, and that we can offer her. She's been a great dog and companion.

If it is not malignant, then we will do the best we can, for as long as we can...I can't see that far ahead at the moment.

I truly appreciate the thoughts and wishes and I don't want to drag down the mood, so it's okay if we move on. You all have my thanks. I hope you know that.

I’m sorry to hear that you all are going through this. I’m hoping for the best.

This is "Crystal", aka: "The Crystal-pants", aka: "Osama Bin Crystal-pants", etc....

*My paranoid "tinfoil hat" has me thoroughly CONVINCED that EVERYONE..."Friends", "Family", strangers, etc...wants to steal her from me. 🤷‍♂️

Well, I just got off the phone with the vet after sitting on my hands for a week waiting for the results to come back as to whether Skyler's right side rib cage lipoma is malignant or not...and the vet told me that it is not. (Holy fucking cow, I swear to the gods we were preparing to send her off on a Viking funeral.)

They still recommend having it removed, but I'm in no rush for her to be cut on, (at this juncture), unless it creates an issue with her breathing or foreleg.
I can't express how it feels like a one ton weight was just lifted off my chest after a week of believing the end was near.

All of you who offered up good thoughts and prayers...I'll never be able to repay you for the kindness.

Skyler sends her love. And so do we.
