Preach. I never knew you could get 50 pounds of hair off a 25 pound dog until I had a Shiba Inu. She has been gone almost eleven years and I’m still getting her hair on me. Best dog I have ever had though.

You said it, not to mention it literally takes an hour every time you go to brush them and you have to do it 4-5 times per season 😅 -- but yeah, they are indeed great dogs. So much personality. Sorry to hear yours isn't with us anymore, not surprised to hear you are still finding fluff.

Mine is a male and he is quite standoffish, I've heard that the females are much sweeter but still have an attitude. What was yours like, behavior/temperament wise?

Nothing brings smiles to patients and staff quite like a pooch. The security dogs at one of our hospitals provide lots of comfort to the staff as well.
It really is cool to share this dudes energy to those in need. He was a guide dog pup originally and had a leg injury so couldn’t proceed. He was meant that sort of thing for sure. Pretty amazing to see some people light up with a good pooch around.

We used to sneak patients dogs in to visit them at night in the ICU sometimes. It would cheer up the patient and the dog.

Yes it was against the rules if they weren’t credentialed, but I shit you not that it turned some outcomes around giving patients hope and a will to make it. Dogs and the connections we have with them are truly amazing.

Momma had another photo shoot… this sweet lil guy passed his therapy dog test the other day. A couple more hoops and he can go spread some doggy love around at hospitals, schools and the like. Pretty cool

Congratulations. My sister was just in the hospital not too long ago with a broken leg, and a dog doing rounds there really brighten her day. Also, she and her husband own a K9 security company and they have a lot of hospitals as clients. They patrol the inside and out.

I hope your sister has recovered. Awesome work she and her husband are doing.
The ‘de-escalation dogs’ have really been a huge help here. When an enraged/unruly person sees security show up, sometimes they just get more irritated. When the dogs come into view, it sometimes has a calming affect, and sometimes scares the person into chilling out. The dogs have helped to decrease physical altercations, as well as help staff feel safer and comforted at times. When they are not actively patrolling or responding to a need, they are sometimes allowed to be petted by staff. There is something so calming about a dog. My wife loves having the dogs around the hospital.

Stay safe

It’s great seeing all these pooches being of service in various ways! Here’s to all the dogs and dog peeps.
