If only he would accept the crate. He'll eat in it...but if I walk up to it when he's in, he'll come out.

Won't go in if I'm standing there, even if I put food in.

It's going to be interesting...

(Was able to solve it with the other dogs...this one is "interesting". Not ready to throw in the towel though.)

I bet previous people used a crate as punishment so he is fearful of getting locked up. I have a feeling that very soon he will be so well behaved that he doesn’t need one anyway, other than his safe space. Hang in there!

Maybe try taking the door off, I had to do that with one of my guys till he got used to it.

Another one refused the metal cage, actually broke the welds off and his front teeth in the process all got chipped.

Got him the largest plastic one they made and it took to it like a baby crib. Would actually open the door himself, go inside, and pull the door closed to the crack.

Sometimes with shelter dogs, you’ve got to look at it from their point of view and all that they possibly could have gone through in life so far.

All mine were shelter rescue dogs, and all turned out fantastic, just had to try multiple options and try to picture what they may have negatively experienced in the past.

My wife reminded me a few minutes ago that today marks 4 years since I lost my Saxon. 4 years! Feels like just yesterday... Anyway, I loved the hell of that dude - so much so that I went out and did something dumb and got 4 other dogs (kind of on accident) to fill the void. I don't recommend that unless you want to start looking like Santa Claus a little early.

I sure do miss that guy - he is memorialized in my bar though so there is that.
