CPK Pet Thread

Thanks Nathan. As said before, been through this quite a few time. Not quite sure if it was easier with the bigger and the larger dogs in the past or the tiny lil fella. I reckon that it sucks either way when life / death decisions are made on their behalf. Back in the day when my hardcore hunter father had a bunch of bird dogs around the family, we understood that they were more like working dogs. As live-in family pets, we develop much closer bonds with them. My lil Yorkie was a total little sh*thead and not affectionate at all! A barely 12 lb. lil bastid who'd dare to take on the 87 lb. GSD just a few years ago! He was old, ailing, Cushing's disease, arthritis, dementia and a major PITA.

All that said, the first day feels surreal, then reality sets in and life goes on till it doesn't. I truly appreciate the camaraderie in here and proud of the fact that by and large we have built quite a nice little community in this corner of the BFC for ourselves. Your sub is a reflection of the quality of the person who you both are
At least you let him pass with some dignity even if he was a grumpy ol’ curmudgeon.
I’ve seen too many people selfishly grasp onto any bit of hope while the pet pays the price.

I am sorry for your loss Casinostocks Casinostocks . It is never an easy thing. I never feel like there are words adequate to truly help, and as someone pretty agnostic about what comes after passing, I never feel like I have a good hopeful promise to make. All I can say is that the love we feel for our dogs has very real value, even when we lose them. And I am sure that Hercules cherished your love and the love he felt for you in return.

Thanks very much Jo, you're truly the Jewel in the CPK-Crown ;)

All's better today after I got a good night's sleep just because I no longer had to wake up like 5 times during the night just to put the lil fella out!!! We have a cat who is 3 years younger than Hercules was but Herci despite being a male, "mothered" that cat a lot and the cat is a de-facto little dog sans the barking ability. Naturally, he knows that something is up and has been hiding on and off (why waste any of those 9 lives, eh?! :) ). Livvie the GSD has also picked up on the sad vibes so she's been very close and comforting. Well raised pets are great and losing them is devastating but if I get the chance, I will do it over again and again and again. There's no quitting in Matty :D

My sincerest thanks to Y'all. You pet owning and per loving guys / gals have been great troopers and friends during my last couple of days of sorrow. I just wanted to reiterate that I really, really appreciate all the kind thoughts and the kindest words. Let's give you all a great round of applause

^ although they shed and have blow outs like a mother%^&%$#, the GSD is just such a GREAT breed if trained well and raised with love and affection. I have owned many dogs from different breeds throughout the years mostly Labs and Retrievers, mixtures, etc... Never owned a German Shepherd till about 6 years ago and since then I have come to rappreciate as to how really smart they are on top of being fiercely loyal and devotedly protective. They're just so much darn fun to have around a loyal companion and they can be such cuddle bugs too as exhibited above :)
