CPK Pet Thread

Unfortunately this is the only vet within about 3 hours of me, and is still about 1.25 hours away as is (I’m in a small town).

I guess technically she did say (after I asked) they could put stitches in if I wanted, but I didn’t say yes, or no as we got to talking what had happened. I went in thinking for sure it would have required stitches and been mandatory 🤷‍♂️

Not a vet....
As a kid we had barn cats .
One male, "Chuckles" was a lean....19 pounder.
He fought Everything.
Always coming home chewed up, cut, limping, banged up.

After my dad squeezed out all the puss and yuck, maybe pulled out a worm or two. We'd try to soak that Cat in Hot water and boric acid.

Idk if you ever heard, cats don't like That......
But it worked.

My dad would put boric acid in their eyes, ears, neck, body wounds. And chewed up feet.
It's great for all kinds of external wounds.

Stitches are to keep things from falling out.
In my opinion wounds need Air to heal. Keep the dog from getting dirty for a week or so.
Doesn't look too bad to me.
Good luck, the dog Will heal. They are good for that. :)

They are a LOT tougher than we are 👍

They hold on till the last instant, super tough and it’s in their DNA too to survive and not show weakness till the very end.

It’s a sad trait, but one of survival 😭

Thank you all for the support and information, I needed it 🙏

Great input and feedback too from Jo the Machinist Jo the Machinist and her prior experiences 😍 🙏

So time for an update. I went in yesterday asking them to put stitches in. After some time and them talking (the vet I saw yesterday was off) they brought him to the back. The lady at the desk pulled out some paperwork and told me they’ll have to put him under with Anasthesia (I figured it would just be a local while he was awake) and I had to sign about the potential of death going under anesthesia and had another waiver page with a CPR or Do not Resuscitate option for me to sign and talking about more that he could die.

I guess they would have had to put him completely under due to having to cut off old dry skin and then stitch it. The risk just wasn’t worth the reward for me, and I kind of panicked after reading that. I told them to stop and I just wanted to take him home and that I’ll bandage it and I’ll just really watch him. Probably why they didn’t stitch him initially on Tuesday

Unfortunately they had already given him a sedative at that point, so he came out pretty out of it

He was groggy as heck all day after that, but he seemed to sleep really well last night. He’s still kind of sleepy today, but is acting normal, eating, and happy 😊

For his bravery I got them a “WAG Cup” from Sonic. It’s bacon topped whip cream, they were in heaven 🤤

Kimber was pretty relaxed and sleepy before it arrived.

Look at how big Kimber’s eyes got when his reward arrived lol

Sounds good. Thanks so much for the update! Sounds like it’s nothing a “wag cup” can’t fix

Anyone who cares about their animals can’t be all bad🤣. I hope the wound heals quickly. The photos of Kimber groggy vs Kimber about to chow down are awesome.
Dogs are great!

Pic 2 and 3 show how the bacon woke him up ! Very sweet.

Bacon and whip cream. Doesn't sound bad, actually ... for myself ! :)

Thanks for the update, C., makes my day to see how much these two are cared for ....

Kimber is 9 years old now, got him when he was estimated to be about 1 years old. He was basically a rescue and an absolute train wreck. Afraid of people and almost everything. Had him on Xanax (from the vet) for about the first 6 months I had him, he was just terrified of people and always hiding under the bed, running from me, and hiding in between couches or any little retreat.

I wound up having to get Radar as a sidekick for an emotional support animal for him and has helped a lot. Kimber loves other dogs, but very people shy. The last 8 years he’s come so far, but still got quite a ways to go. So when anything happens to him especially, it breaks my heart so bad, because he’s had such a long and stressful road.

Radar has been great for him and has showed Kimber how to become a semi normal doggie.

It’s amazing what rescue dogs and cats have been through. A lot of things they can recover from, but they always will fall back on that instinctive behavior.

We can bring out the best of them through love and care, and that makes it all worthwhile.

It’s a great feeling for us both, but it takes pure dedication and work, all worth it ❤️

Shepards always seem wise beyond their years.

They are Very different dogs, for sure....
I can only think of a few breeds like that.

When I was in the socialization stage with our pup, I went to the dog park (we have an excellent massive one really close....I took ours there 4-5 times per week for a couple hours each visit. We were regulars.....
We'd see some on occasion....they generally aren't "dog park dogs"

Most dogs build relationships.

Shepard's, Doberman's, and some others seem to be mostly Owner focused. Not really caring about Anything else. Makes sense why they make such great police dogs.

How are multiple shepherds together, idk anything about that? Hard to imagine each dog gets to be the favorite....haha. getting All the focus

My late Weimaraner, and now, Kobe, (were and) are pretty much exactly like that. I can't get up and move from one room to the other without being trailed and either sat next to or leaned upon.

Only Skyler was different in that regard...where she wasn't a complete Velcro dog.

It's even more noticeable in a public space with billions of distractions.....and with Them, there are none. It's weird......my dog is a rescue "lab mix"....she's the opposite. She bolts to greet Every single person wherever we are.
A social butterfly. Doesn't care about Us once she's there .... wherever There is. Haha

Edit.
Yes Weimaraners......also a Very Different breed. I've only seen maybe 5?

Beautiful Ghost dogs....best color. Gorgeous.
Also probably the top 3-5 most athletic breeds I've seen.

But, In my opinion nobody out performs a Vizsla.
They are Insane with ability. (Not always a good thing). 😂

My Uncle raised and trained Visla’s, Gorgeous dogs, full of energy and super smart, not always good I agree, but what a dog ❤️
