I will admit to weeping when I held Smoky in my arms at the vet to say goodbye while he slowly breathed his last. And for months afterward I'd wake up in the middle of the night and shed some tears.I grew up with a Weimaraner, Sam. Hardest day was helping my father take him to the vet for the very last time. My father and him were very bonded.
They are very different. Most of my life I’ve had mastiffs of different types. I live very remotely in the woods/mountains. I was having frequent issues with bears tearing up my trash and getting generally too comfortable around my curtilage. I put bells on my dumpster and awoke to the bells ringing and my older mastiffs could not be bothered to even bark at them. I also had an instance of trespassing where someone entered my property in a UTV at 1:00 in the morning, driving all over my property and near my house. My mastiffs slept right through it. My wife would go out to feed our farm animals and ask the mastiffs to come with her and they would squish down in their bed and avoid eye contact. I am definitely not bashing the mastiff breeds. I love them and honestly they are still my favorites, but I decided that my next dogs would have more drive. My sister and her husband own a K9 security business in Southern California. They do guarding and patrolling of businesses and residences, high value escorts and ect. After talking with them, I purchased my two shepherds from a place called Taylormade Working Dogs in Southern California that they had a relationship with. They import and breed high drive working line German shepherd dogs. Taylormade recommended that I get one at a time with about a year or more between them. But since my wife and I both wanted to have one with us wherever we were we got two from the same litter. Taylormade agreed since my sister and her husband vouched for my ability to train and handle two at the same time. Honestly I can admit that they were right and I probably should have spaced them out. It is exponentially harder to train two at the same time due to the amount of time it takes and that so much of training them is exact timing of rewarding behaviors. Also, they tend to amp each other up. If I start working with one the other one is certainly dissatisfied and by the time it is their turn we must first overcome the energy they have built while waiting their turn. They enjoy each other’s company but would each rather be an only dog I believe. As you said they are very focused on the owner, more than I could have imagined. They love to be outside but if I let them both out they just lay there and stare at the door waiting for me to come out. They are incredibly smart and trainable. Their only limitations are my limitations to properly teach them. The energy can be a bit much sometimes. But that’s on me for getting dogs that are bred to be full time working dogs with tons of stimulation. Most of the dogs from Taylormade go to situations where they will be working a lot and that’s where they excel. I needed more driven dogs but maybe not the most driven dogs. Mine are great dogs though. And I’m happy to have them. There has not been a single bear incident around my place in the six years since I’ve had them. Also I can be totally confident that if someone is on my property, in a place that I have familiarized the dogs with, I will know it.They are Very different dogs, for sure....
I can only think of a few breeds like that.
When I was in the socialization stage with our pup, I went to the dog park (we have an excellent massive one really close....I took ours there 4-5 times per week for a couple hours each visit. We were regulars.....
We'd see some on occasion....they generally aren't "dog park dogs"
Most dogs build relationships.
Shepard's, Doberman's, and some others seem to be mostly Owner focused. Not really caring about Anything else. Makes sense why they make such great police dogs.
How are multiple shepherds together, idk anything about that? Hard to imagine each dog gets to be the favorite....haha. getting All the focus

He was my best boy. You all know how it is.
At home is the best, saddest , but bestWhen our Sadie passed, we had it done at home. Highly recommended.
Yeah, It seems to be relatively recent and not available everywhere. We lucked out by having someone local who offers the service. A very nice Vet who now does this full time. A blessing for many. That option wasn't available locally when it was needed.
