Regarding the price: I recently had a custom Khukuri by a very well known and highly regarded ABS mastersmith. Back in the day, almost 8 years ago, those used to be in the 1800 range. I don't know about the prowess of that piece but looked exquisitely done, both in terms of fit and finish. However, the steel used was no where near 3V, let alone Nathan's D3V! That piece is now easily a 2500 piece which that maker's collectors would go crazy over a piece of his wares made like that.
The moment when Nathan had decided to go for 12" instead of the originally planned 10", this future CPK-Kukri really became a no brainer for me at max numbers and max options! Call me a homer if you want (you'd be right) but I would bet the house on the CPK-Kuk over that other one on any day!

So .... after sleeping 2 nights over it, it pains me to say that I'm stepping back from the pre-order 
Maybe I'll be lucky at the Friday sales next year. Sorry for all the noise. Obviously a very exciting knife for me, but too much other stuff going on currently, and I'm still adjusting to my new life, obviously.

I see terotuf recommended a lot for the choppers and bigger offerings from CPK. Super grippy and is supposed to absorb shock very well. That said the vintage micarta offerings are absolutely beautiful and perform very well imo. I’m sure they would also be well suited. Not sure if that helps any

TeroTuf has more grip especially when wet. It might provide a bit more shock absorbtion than micarta but I haven't noticed a big enough difference to make an impact on my choice of scales. The micarta is a little more durable if that matters to you. I haven't had any issues with any of my CPK TeroTuf.
For me most of the time I'm using a chopper it's work and I'm sweaty and the handles gets wet so the grip it provides is a big plus in my book. A pair or Mechanix gloves and the TT locks it in hand well.
