CPM S30V Buck on Cabela's

such a beauty. Like a new car, hate to put the first scratch on it. I do use my other bucks, especially my 560 and 442. My 110s (I have two, a newer one and my original 110 that I got back in 1966) have seen lots of use. And my Bucktool gets used a lot, especially around the house. Reviewing some of the comments above, mine did not have any scratches on the bolsters (thankfully), nor can I see a notch on the tip that was mentioned. I do notice a bit of blade play in the closed position, but none when opened. And yes, a little "gritty" feeling/sound when opening. As you mentioned previously, nothing to send it back for, but I do wonder, what causes the blade play?

Backorders on 110's are in! I got mine and there is no blade play on any of mine.

Anyone know how long Cabelas will be selling these knives? I don't have the cash to purchase one right at this moment, but plan to in a few weeks or a month or so.

Thanks,

KP

i'm fairly new to knives, well at least new to how collaborations work, and just wondering about this particular knife, and how it all works:

Is this a special collaboration that is between Cabela's and Buck? So in other words no other place will be selling these? How many are going to be produced? And I don't see anywhere on the Buck site that mentions this knife, unless I overlooked it.

My 110 is getting scratches on the ricasso from rubbing on the bolsters during opening and closing. Is anyone else noticing these scratches?

Mine had them too. The dark coating shows them well. Maybe they're cranking the 110's out too fast to meet demand & as a result, QC is slipping? Don't know. My Vanguard was beautiful & what I expected with a new knife from Buck. Can't say the same for the 110. All the bolster's have way too many fine scratches for a new knife. Little disappointed in that. Otherwise though, alot of knife for the money.

No scratches on the bolsters here. I wonder if the scratches on the ricasso are "normal" but just show up because of the coating. I'm starting to lean towards sending the knife back and request one without blade play when closed. This might be the cause of the scratches.

Am I too critical of a $60 production knife?

I wondered the same thing. In my case, I decided the bolster's we're too scratched up & sent it back for a replacement. I know the knife will get scratched with use. But in my mind, whether it's a $60 or $600 knife, it shouldn't start out that way right out of the box. Guess it depends who you ask whether you're being too critical or not. Bottom line, it's your knife, (& money) so you have to decide if you can live with it the way it is. Good luck.

Point well taken. Did you send it back to Cabela's or back to Buck? Let us know how things go.

Looks like a special collaboration between Buck and Cabela's. Don't know if the production will be limited but it appears not. These babies are selling like crazy and should only continue to do so.

I sent it back to Cabela's & asked for another one. I'll let you know when it arrives.

Got my Vanguard in, and it is pretty much immaculate. I couldn't be happier. Well, I could, but not by workmanship. I kinda wish they had produced these with the checkering like the did the original Master Series in BG-42. BUT, other than that, I'm extremely pleased.

One thing is for sure (in my mind); if your knife isn't right, then Buck will make it so. They have always had the best customer service in the business, IMO.

DOH! Found one little thing that annoys me on my Vanguard, and it is just a nit. The Bos stamp, with the flame, the S30V, "U.S.A." is tilted. Enough that the "U.S.A." is noticeably at a different angle from the upper edge of the primary bevel. Oh well.... maybe they are having to ramp up production a lot to keep up with demand...... Like I said, a nit. But I thought I probably should mention it.

It's like that on mine also. Noticed it right away, but I can live with it. The rest of the knife is great.

Is yours the Vanguard or the 110? If the Vanguard, maybe something is set wrong on the machinery. But if the 110, maybe it is from being hand-stamped, although I can't see how it can be at the prices they are going for.

In any case, very minor for such EXCELLENT knives!

I have both. The tilt is on the Vanguard like yours. I sent back the 1st 110 because all 4 bolsters had too many fine scratches that was unacceptable to me. The replacement one is much better. I noticed the shealth had a sticker saying assembled in Mexico. Makes me wonder if they aren't referring to the knife also.

Hmmmm... my Vanguard sheath didn't have a sticker on it. I'll have to take a close look at it. The sheath, though, is even more immaculate than the knife. By a wide margin, if you consider the tilted stamp.

Sorry for the confusion. I was actually referring to the 110 sheath with the Mexico sticker. It's right out in the open where you can't miss it. No sticker on the Vanguard, so who knows? I agree, they are very nice sheaths. Just prefer USA on everything.

I checked the Bos stamp on my Vanguard. It is tilted if you look at how it's aligned with the spine. However, if you look at how the tip is aligned with the butt (is that the "plunge line"?), it's perfect.

I'm stopping by Cabela's in person next week, if there are any 110's available, I'm getting one!

Is rosewood on Alaskan Guide Vanguard solid or laminated?
Is it brass on guard and handle butt?

Thanks, Vassili.
