Is rosewood on Alaskan Guide Vanguard solid or laminated?
Is it brass on guard and handle butt?

Thanks, Vassili.

Can't say with 100% certainty, but it appears to be laminated. Yes on the brass, both guard & butt.

I'm 99% certain it is laminated. If you look at the knife from above, looking at the spine of the handle, the layers of the rosewood look very regular and even, no like the normal grain in wood.

And like the other man said, yes, brass.

You made me do it, I didnt want to, I thought I could resist as long as it was just in the catalog and I didnt hear anything about it. Now I've got one on the way and before it's over I might be getting a vanguard or an alpha fixed blade. If they add a 119 special to the line-up I will be ordering one....

This series is sure getting a lot of attention!
The handles are made of laminate, we find it take a lot of abuse and holds up.
The knives are made here in El Cajon for now, soon it will be Idaho.
Fine scratches on the bolsters is a head scratcher. I wish i could have seen the knife. I will talk to the guy who has worked on 110's for many years to see if he can offer an explanation.
Hopefully i can find one of the Vanguards so I can see the "tilted stamp". For the most part, the blade is nested in a fixture for the stamping operation and should align just about perfectly. The only question is, what part of the knife is it aligned with? The guard face, backbone of the blade, start of the hollowgrind? On some knives its not an easy decision on where it looks the best.
Of course, and I hate to admit this, we could have actually goofed up a few and just plain stamped them crooked.

No worries if you just "goofed up" a few. It certainly doesn't bother ME. I can't for the life of me figure out what line that stamp should be lined up with, if it isn't goofed up. ;) EXCELLENT knife, though. Top notch materials, and workmanship. Hopefully if it is just goofed up, you guys don't change it. That might make mine and a few others collectible, and then I'd be afraid to use it. And this knife just begs to be used, just like my two other Vanguards!

By the way, they have the 110's in stock again, I ordered two yesterday for Xmas presents. Getting an early start and ordering them while they are still available.

I just got one too, but my wife won't let me open it until my birthday (Thursday). I was impressed with how quickly Cabelas shipped -- had to have been same day. :)
