I just spent the last few days ironing out a deal for a slightly used Benchmade AFCK 806D2. After a bit of haggling, I got the price down to $90, shipped.

I was happy.

When it came time to exchange addresses and such, I offered to each send out our half of the deal. that way if we used USPS Delivery confirmation, we could each be assured of tracking our ends of the deal.

nicky didn't like that idea and wanted me to send him the money first and when the check or oney order cleared, he would send the knife.

I was a little suspicious, and said that I would send a check so at least I could track that through my bank.

Then he quickly bailed out saying that he thought he could get more for it on ebay.

I find this to be very dishonorable, but I guess that, given the circumstances, I'm probably better off.

WHo knows.

I have had many fantastic transactions on these forums the last few weeks. This one was unfortunate.

Below is the most recent email I received form 'crazy nicky':

"You have been a pain in the ass about this knife since you contacted me! You're forgeting that Iam the seller! What I say goes...and if you don't like it, SCREW! Take some friendly advice...when you do get your 806D2, cut your throat with it and do the world a favor."

That's no way to deal with anyone. Regardless of the degree to which I was a 'pain in the ass'.

It is unfortunate that this kind of things happens.

This guy wanted me to sell him a knife against forum rules. Which I will not do. Then this guy wanted me to mail him the knife without me getting paid first! Is this guy for real? Why would I send this guy a knife without getting paid first?! This guy is bad news...

If I violated any rules, I did not realize it. I don't think that I did, though. If a moderator reads this and determines that I did, then please let me know. I would never have 'gone public' with this if I thought I was in the wrong.

Like I said, I suggested that we each agree to mail on the same day, he sends the knife, I send the check, at the same time. In every transaction there is risk on both ends. I don't think it's necessarily fair that the buyer take all the risk, but I was willing to send a check first and have him send the knife when that cleared. That was the point at which he bailed.

I don't know if he was trying to scam me, or if he's just a very disagreeable person, but I do know that there was no call for the type of hostile interaction he engaged in.

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

-John

crazy nicky would you mind telling me the rules that John tried to violate? I'm not taking any sides on this but I can for sure say that if this was your actual email it is in very bad taste and disrespectful.

Is this guy really that soft to think I would of sent him a $100 knife with no gurantees of payment? Now you tell me, who was taking the bigger risk?! You have alot to learn about buisness, pal. This isn't a forum trade where you send at the same time.

I didn't say he violated any rules! Where did I say that? He was trying to get me to violate rules which I wasn't about to do. No deal was ever made with this guy. This guy made this deal up in his head. And his made up emails, I think he is insane! I told this guy numerous times this knife was going up for auction, he kept insisting I send him pictures and kept trying to get me to sell it for $75! $75 for a knife I paid about $120 and never carried or abused is absolutley ridiculous.

The only rule I can think of that I even CAME CLOSE to violating is that I found a post of his on the trade forums looking for a knife I did not have in trade for the 806D2 I was looking for. I emailed him OFFLINE, not on the forums, and explained that I didn't have what he was looking for, and that I had other things to trade. I also said that if he was not interested in what I had, that I would be interested in buying it from him if he was interested and if it was still available.

I have actually checked with a BF Moderator on this type of interaction/transaction previously and was told, essentially, that basic members may not sell on the forums, but that if an offer to buy is made or received through email, rather than on the forums, it was OK.

I don't know what else he could be refering to, but I suspect that he is just trying to smear my name to try to make himself look better. you'll notice he didn't dispute any of the statements I made. Nor did he answer masterchef's question about what I actually did wrong.

What he says is true, and I stated from the begining that I offered to do the 'send at the same time thing'. He refused and asked for a money order. I said I'd send a check tomorrow, and he bailed.

No, this isn't a 'forum trade' but what's the difference really? I trade an item of equal value or that sum in money, what's the difference? Like I said, I didn't INSIST on this; just asked. nicky even says that.

It is sad that he beleives that insults make up for wrongdoing.

$75 for a knife I paid about $120 and never carried or abused is absolutley ridiculous.(I cut two sheets of paper and a small piece of cardboard once and has been boxed ever since!)

Look whos trying to smear who! You come on the forums and post some nonsense because you're upset I wouldn't sell you the knife for $75 (Because you said "Money is tight right now!" but then you asked what else I was selling!) Are you kidding me???

Now he's actually calling me a liar? I will forward anyone who's interested every email I sent and recieved with nicky.

It took him a while to deny that stuff though, huh?

I believe that a buyer is free to offer any amount he sees fit, and a seller is free to accept or decline as he sees fit. He asked $100, I said that seemed high, he offered $85, I offered $75 (I figured that if he dropped all the way to $85 maybe he'd take $75), he said $90, when I asked why now $90 instead of $85 he said for shipping. I said OK.

Money IS tight, so I try to get what I buy at the lowest price possible, that's smart shopping. I didn't say, "all I have is $75..."

This is all getting silly now.

I don't plan to post any more on this, but If anyone has any questions or anything, I'll certainly respond to them.

Thanks,

-John

Hey I told you you were welcome to bid on the item and that's when you started harrasing me. BTW it isn't hard to fudge emails, which this guy is famous for.

once again I will say.I'm not taking any sides I just want to know the Rules he tried to get you to violate? As for the sounds of this whole transaction, crazy nicky you should have just said sorry not interested and John you should have said no problem thanks for your time! This is a friendly forum and both parties need to be happy.Once a person has established a good reputation that person has every right to ask for mutual shipping in ANY transaction. It doesn't matter if it's a money for knife trade or knife for knife trade. I for one will not do ANY transaction with anyone if they wont trust me to do a mutual shipping. Both parties have something to loose and both parties have the right to ask for mutual shipping. I for one EXPECT it!

I'll tell you what, you can forward any email you want and if people want to see yours I'll forward those to them as well. You're acting like a small child because I wouldn't sell you a knife for way below what it is worth.

Well that's you Chef! I sell knives on eBay and would never send an item without being paid first! That in my opinion is just plain stupid. I never trusted this guy from the get go. Would you trust some guy from the forums you never interacted with? I told this guy I was NOT interested and that I was selling it on eBay and that's when he became surley in his emails. Just because he was trying to get something for nothing. Then he comes on here to try and bash my rep.

Hi Guys,
I'm a little confused. Did the buyer and seller agree on a price? And if so did the buyer or seller back out?
This is very important to determine who to put on the ignore list:D .
As far as shipping simultaneously goes,,those with longstanding reputations of being "good" will always expect the item to ship simultaneously. However,,those with new or little positive history should expect to pay first.

I have done a lot of deals over the net. I find the knife people to be worth trusting.

My first deal, I was still relatively new to trades, and asked if I could have the knife in my hands before I shipped my end. Not a problem with that deal. Now I ship same day, or if ordering/buying I send MOs either before they ship or same day(depends on "seller").

I'm getting a rig from Eric "normark", both of us are mailing with monday's pickup. My cash is already in the box 1/2 block away.

my dealer in texas works different. I order via email, and after working details out, I ship the MO (she orders same day). she gets both around the same time, and then ships to me.

It's all about mutual trust and respect. The trade I'm working on right now, I'm not going to see the knife for a while after. It's going right to eric for a rig, while I ship mine to the other party the same day he ships to eric. Not a problem doing that as I have trust in the other parties involved in this one.

Where did you get that from? It would be impossible to find another thread on these or any forums where I have received any negative feedback.

Like I said, this is silly. Nothing either of us say proves anything. It's all my word against his.

I AM glad that the readers of this forum got to at least see the manner in which each of us interact and settle disputes.

MASTERCHEF: I agree, I have a tough time trusting someone who's not willing to trust me in return.

I recently sold an item on another forum which I actually sent out FIRST and asked the buyer to send the money when he recieved and approved it. I have had two menbers of THIS forum dothe same to me. That's the way I am and the kind of business I want to engage in. I'm sure I'll get shafted on a deal eventually, but in the meantime I am a much happier person.

NOTDOS: Yes we agreed on a price; $90. The Seller Backed out when I said I'd send a personal check and he could ship when it cleared.

-John

Dude, why do you keep saying I backed out because of a personal check???!!! That had nothing to do with it at all!!! I told you I wasn't going to sell it to you because I didn't like you and I was putting it up for auction! When did a personal check become a factor? I told you that you were too much of a hassle to deal with! GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!
