Creeps in the Woods

I was enjoying the outdoors a month or so ago when suddenly a completely naked man starts walking up to us. I start lifting the knife off my belt and he walks past me (dumbfounded) and nonchalantly says "Don't mind me, I'm just looking for mushrooms". Then disappears into the brush.
I nearly crapped my pants. I was caught somewhere between Fight and Flight and didn't do either. I couldn't decide between "Defending Home & Country" and "Laughing My Rear Off".
Worse part.....I think I might actually know the guy from back home. *sigh*
Creep.

a few years ago, i was driving along a major rural divided highway, and i saw a TON of red and blues ahead, and some behind, traffic stops. there's a buck naked woman sprinting up the middle grassy divider, with many police in hot pursuit. on of those "wtf" moments. MMM.

Yo Dan, If a naked man walked into my camp with woman and children, I would be a bit more apprehensive (i.e., that man would leave in police custody).

no wife, no kids on this one....just a friend.

And yes, we were ready to *pounce* on him when he totally caught us off guard with the mushroom content.

Maybe he had had a few too many already?!?

When I was a teenager I was beat up and robbed by three dudes while I was tending to my campfire.

One time on a motorcycle trip, some seedy looking guys were eyeballing me in the parking lot of a grocery store where I was getting some supplies. About an hour later, the same guys in the same truck slowly cruised by my isolated camp spot 20 or so miles away. They stopped, backed up, and watched me for a couple minutes before moving on. That was just too much of a coincidence for me, so I packed up quickly and camped elsewhere instead.

A good reply would have been
in your best Yoda Voice
"Found some you have"

definitely some real winners out in the woods,

Me and two friends were camping and drinking beer in a rock quarry. We were all teenagers and drank as much beer as we could. My buddies went to town to get more alcohol. This was back in the 70s. I was tending to the camp fire when a car pulled up. I thought it was my companions and didnt pay any attention to them and continued tending to the fire. I heard somebody ask "What are you doing?" I stood up and there were three guys there. They beat the hell out of me and stole everything of value.

That sucks! Man, did you ever see any of these douchers again? I would have been looking for them for all my days....just waiting for some payback.

2003. My house is abutting a town park. A couple of buddies and I went out for a night hike in the park, as we do a lot during the summer. We hiked about 1.5 miles to the end of the park, where we then hung a right to go walk to the water’s edge. We had to go about ¼ mile through a pretty small game trail to get there. About half way there, we can smell a fire. Now, we didn’t think much of it, as many kids/teens go out to the park at night, so we just carefully and silently walked the path hoping not to run into anyone.

At this point, one of my buddies just freezes in his steps about 10 yards in front of me. He motions us up, and we can clearly see the fire, and three guys standing around it. My friends want to avoid the situation, but I really wanted to continue. I felt like there was no issue with just walking by. As we were discussing what to do, one of the guys snaps around and just yells, “Hey”. I am a very calm dude, so I was said “Hey man, just walking through to the water. No problems dude”. Now all three guys are looking at us, and we can see they are pretty rough looking. Just staring at us. I said “no worries guys, we’ll take a different path in”. We turned around and walked away, all while one of them kind of followed us to a branch in the trial. He just stood there and watched us walk off.

Now I was never really worried. There were 4 of us, we were in our mid 20’s, and I’m the smallest guy at 6’2” 215lbs. It was just a weird thing to run into. We went home and thought nothing of it. Next day I get a text from my buddy telling me to read the news. Three escaped inmates had been caught about 15 miles south of where we were, on the same road (Route 3a) at another park. The description matched the guys we saw. We don’t know for sure that it was them, but I’d be willing to wager a fair amount it was them.

3 Escaped Inmates Caught After a Day
Published: June 06, 2003
Three inmates who escaped from a state prison in Concord, N.H., on Wednesday were recaptured this afternoon at a campground in Plymouth, Mass., the authorities said.
A tip led to the discovery of the three at the Sandy Pond campground, more than 100 miles from the New Hampshire prison, officials said. Massachusetts state police officers took the three into custody without incident, said Sgt. David Paine, a police spokesman.
Maj. Barry Hunter, who led the investigation for the New Hampshire state police, said in a telephone interview that a confidential source had given the authorities information that led them to the campsite.
Sergeant Paine said state and local authorities set up surveillance at the campsite around 11 a.m. after receiving a tip from New Hampshire officials. They soon identified one of the men. One man left the campsite around 3:20 p.m. and was arrested. The authorities evacuated about a dozen nearby campers and surrounded a tent that held the remaining fugitives. Summoned by a bullhorn, they surrendered.

''It was a well-thought-out plan,'' Major Hunter said.
The escapees were identified as Kevin J. Gil, 31, who is serving 45 years for an August 2000 murder; Philip Dick, 23, who was sentenced to a 15 to 30 years for a 1999 police shooting; and Christopher McNeil, 35, who is serving 35 years for weapons possession.
